Beast reached out and squeezed my shoulder. “Raff already gave me the coke. I’ll take that baggie of meth, and handle it.”

“Handle it?” I asked.

“The less you know, the safer you are,” Tundra said.

“Right.”

After a quick shower, I came out of my bathroom wearing my teal leopard-print sleep tank and shorts. I had my hair twisted up on top of my head since I didn’t feel like running the blow-dryer. My body froze when I entered my room.

Rafferty lay shirtless in my bed with the covers bunched around his waist and a paperback in his hand. He truly was a living, breathing work of art. All that colorful ink beckoned to me.

“Stop staring and get over here, woman,” he said, tossing the book on the nightstand.

As I approached the bed, I noticed his hair was still mussed from his earlier shower. “You could have used the blow-dryer.”

He whipped the covers lower on my side of the bed for me. “And miss the way you stare at my wet hair? Not a chance.”

I rolled my eyes. “When did you get so cocky?”

He patted the bed next to him. “When did you get so timid?”

I climbed into the bed. “Not timid, more like, bashful.”

He slid his arm behind the small of my back and tugged me closer. “I want you to think about something.”

I put my hand on his bare shoulder, my chest resting against his. “We did this yesterday, and I agreed.”

He smirked. “No, this is something different. I should probably give you a day before bringing this up, but most places are understanding when there’s been a death in the family.”

My lips drew together and I resisted arguing with him. Ines wasn’t family, but at the same time, she was part of my extended family.

Rafferty watched me war with my thoughts. “You know she’s your family. Hell, we both know a thing or two about finding family for yourself. You tell that dentist that you need next week off, you can come back to Jacksonville.”

I opened my mouth to inhale and he cupped my cheek. “I’m asking you to think about it.”

Twisting my head, I quickly kissed his palm. “Yeah, and I will, but I have questions.”

He suddenly pushed forward so I was flat on my back. His eyes burned with intensity and surprise. Then he lowered his lips to mine and kissed me, long and lingering. I got into the kiss and let my hands rove his body.

He grabbed my hand before it went down to his ass and he broke the kiss. “What are your questions?”

That kiss had distracted me and I gave my head a short shake. “What’s the point of going back to Jacksonville? I mean, how is a week that much different than a four-day weekend?”

He let go of my hand. Ever-so-slowly, he dragged his fingers up along my arm to my neck, and slid his hand into the hair at the side of my head.

“My gut says certain people don’t know who you are right now, but that will change once word gets out that Ines is dead.

You got a chance to get out of town, and I think you should take it.

I might be paranoid, or maybe I’m selfish, but having you in my bed for nine days will beat the fuck out of just four. ”

I couldn’t remember the last time I’d had nine days away from school or work.

The closest might have been the four-day weekend I spent with Simone at Bike Week, but that was well over a year ago.

And I’d cut my time in Daytona short because I knew Rafferty was hanging with the brothers. Nine days off sounded like heaven.

His words replayed in my mind and I shot him some side eye. “Wait. Your bed? You said you were planning to move, so where are you even staying? Do you have a room at the clubhouse?”

He stared at me for a beat. “Would it be a problem if my bed were at the clubhouse?”

My eyes skated to the side and back to him. “Yeah, if Dad’s around… Gah! Or worse, your mom and dad.”

He wheezed out a laugh and lowered his head to my pillow. His body shook with his mirth and I took the opportunity to run my hands up and down his back.

He raised up on his forearms. “I hadn’t thought about that, and you’re right, that’s fucked up.

My lease is month to month, and I haven’t indicated I’m moving, so I still have a place close to the clubhouse.

Though I want us to spend the night at the clubhouse when we know neither of our parentals will be there. ”

“Why?” I blurted, and instantly regretted it.

He cocked a brow. “It’s who I am. At some point, when you’re my old lady, we’re gonna spend the night there, and they’ll likely be there, too.”

It was on the tip of my tongue to say that we’d just be spending the night there and we wouldn’t have to have sex while our parents were under the same roof, but I knew better. No way would Raff go for that, and now that we’d had sex… I wouldn’t want that either.

I nodded. “You’re right. I’ll check my bank account in the morning and give it some thought.”

He squinted an eye at me. “What’s your bank account got to do with it?”

My eyes widened. “Money’s tight, Raff. It might only be a week’s worth of work, but it pays well and offers me more experience than any of my classes do right now.”

He stared at the headboard for a beat. “Have to confirm with Beast, but something tells me that you just earned an extra fifteen-hundred dollars minimum tonight. One of those rolls of cash going MIA is—”

I put my finger to his lips. “Don’t say that. I can’t take that money, even if it’s foolish for me to wave it away. Sure, they might not miss it if they end up with fourteen grand or whatever amount Beast said, but I don’t want to spit in the eye of the snake.”

His finger traced along my hairline and down to my jaw. “I’m just saying, depending on how this plays out, you might not have to be so strapped for cash this summer.”

My free hand still rested on his back. I slid it down expecting to find his underwear, but encountered his bare ass instead. With wide eyes, I glanced up at him. “How did I miss that you’re naked?”

He dragged a hand up and under my sleep tank. “Don’t know, but I’m damned happy you figured it out. Are you sure you aren’t still tender? I know you fibbed earlier when you got home from your exam.”

“That was a good seven hours ago, so, no. I’m not tender or sore.”

He glanced at my clock on the nightstand. “When do you have to be up in the morning?”

I grinned. “I thought I told you. Tomorrow, I’m going to study in the morning.”

“How early in the morning?”

I smirked. “Not that early. Nine or nine-thirty would work, which means we have time right now. Actually, I might spend some time studying your body and these tattoos.”

His gorgeous brown eyes blazed and his hips bucked, which allowed his erection to graze my pussy. “I’m an open book, Robertson.”

I shifted my hips up, seeking that contact again. “Then I better get started.”

He shook his head. “As much as I’d like that, tonight, I want to watch you take me.”

Even though I knew what he meant, there were nuances to his words and I asked, “Take you?”

He smirked again, and this one was devilish. “Yeah. I want to watch you bounce on my dick, and if you can handle it, I’m gonna fuck you again reverse cowgirl afterward.”

All of that excited me, but I was a realist. I widened my eyes at him. “I’m still pretty new to this.”

He grinned. “Yeah, and that makes it even better, baby.”

I returned his grin. “Just pointing out, there’s no reason we can’t do what we both want.”

“You’re right,” he whispered.

He dropped his lips to mine while his other hand went inside my sleep tank.

I gasped when both of his thumbs slid across my nipples.

His tongue pushed inside my mouth and no matter how I tried to keep up with his kiss, he controlled it.

He took what he wanted from this kiss and I liked what he took.

I dragged one of my hands up his back and slid my fingers into his semi-damp hair. My legs spread, his hips dropped down, and I moaned at the sensation.

I loved this - even if we were just making out - there was a nearness to it, a comfort that sent a thrill down my spine.

Out of nowhere, Rafferty rolled to his back and I pulled back with a smile. “That was fun.”

His eyes heated. “It’s gonna be fun when you get naked and settle your wet pussy on my cock, Lex.”

I reached for the hem of my tank, but he shoved it up forcing me to raise my arms. He sat up to tug it off me. Then his mouth was on my nipple.

My head tipped back while my hands clutched him to me. “God, yes.”

He chuckled and let me go with his mouth. His hands shoved into my sleep shorts and panties. “Gonna have to help me out here, baby.”

I was so turned on, any awkwardness I might have felt fell by the wayside and I lifted up a leg so I could help him get my clothes off.

Once I was naked, Rafferty slid his fingers between my legs. I moved instinctively.

“Fuck, Lex. You’re so wet for me, I don’t know if I want to feast on your sweet, wet pussy, or if I want to fuck you, or play with you some more just to see how goddamn wet I can make you.”

I swallowed down a moan because I wanted all three of those options.

Rafferty chuckled and I stared down at him. He’d bulked up in the past few years. Up close like this, I noticed how well-rounded and muscular his shoulders had become. His shoulder featured a tattoo of what looked like a female leopard… or it might have been a cheetah.

I leaned down and used my tongue to trace the outline of the animal.

Rafferty’s voice came out thick and raspy when he spoke. “Found the leopard.”

“It’s a great tattoo,” I murmured.

“First piece I ever had inked.”

I glanced up at him. “Really?”

“Yeah.”

The warmth in his eyes…it was like it had something to do with me.

“When did you have it done?”

“The fuckin’ day after everything went wrong.”

“You weren’t even eighteen! Hell, Blake wasn’t licensed then.”

“That didn’t stop either of us. He filled in the color later on after he got licensed.”

“Geez, Blake is a damned artistic genius.”

“He is, but that’s you. You’re the leopard on my shoulder.”

That took me aback. “Why am I a leopard? I’m not the one who ran that day in high school.”

His eyes went unfocused like he was remembering that day…or maybe it was the day he got the tat. “No. Even though I was pissed, I wanted something that represented you. Blake said you were like a leopard.”

“That doesn’t make sense,” I murmured.

He slid a hand into my hair. “Sure it does. At the time, you were a little shorter than you are now; leopards are the smallest of the so-called big cat family. Blake also pointed out that leopards are daring. That rang true to that afternoon, and I asked if he had a sketch. He did, and here we are.”

I nipped at his shoulder. “I wasn’t daring that day.”

He tilted my head, and I looked into his eyes. “You were. That stunt could have backfired, but it’s done, Lex. We’ve moved on, and I’d much rather focus on right here and right now. You agree?”

I smiled and brushed my lips against his. “Yeah.”
