Nico
I frowned as I watched Maya catch a midday nap in bed next to Jason.
In the two days since Jason was shot and brought to Maya’s house, she’d barely left his side.
She had taken the rest of the week off of work, and had taken care of Luke and her mother, of course, but she’d barely left Jason’s side if she didn’t have to.
At night, I’d catch her sitting up, wide awake, keeping watch.
She took his vitals several times a day and wrote the numbers down in a little notebook she kept on her nightstand.
Dr. Griffin had returned on Wednesday with more supplies for Maya, including a catheter, since they wouldn’t know how long Jason would be out for.
Griffin had been fantastic and had reached out a couple times since then to check on his patient, and Maya had given a detailed account of his well-being each time.
If she wasn’t sleeping in the bed beside Jason, she was curled up in the recliner in the corner.
Marcos and I had carried her to the bed a couple times, just so we could use the chair ourselves.
The stress of the ordeal was weighing heavily on her.
Elaine had told me that she was barely eating, despite Elaine cooking meals for us.
I had stocked the fridge with groceries, knowing money was tight.
The life-insurance policy had covered the funeral expenses, but there wasn’t enough to cover other expenses, not until Elaine was able to sit down and finalize things with her lawyer to get access to Harry’s 401k.
I understood it was a stressful time, and adding Jason’s injury to the list wasn’t helping.
Helping out with groceries was the least I could do.
Marcos was busy with running the club and taking care of Luke.
With it being the kid’s first week of school, he had homework on top of football practice, and he had another game tomorrow morning that Marcos was insisting Luke still attend.
Life was busy and still moved forward despite one of our brothers lying unconscious in bed for days. We still had jobs to do.
Marcos walked in the bedroom while I was lost in thought.
“Kara just called; the D.A. got Carmichael before the judge this morning. He’s been sentenced to the ten years for racketeering and fraud for the shit against the firm, then an additional twenty years for the murder of Mac Taylor.
Kara’s on her way to the board meeting to find out the status of the firm. ”
“So we should know soon?”
“Yes.” Marcos nodded. “She said that it could take a couple hours, but she felt confident that by the end of the night she would be in possession of Carmichael I wasn’t having you piss in my bed.
Never was one of my kinks.” She slipped on gloves as she spoke, and I took the time to admire her form.
She was utterly gorgeous despite the bags under her eyes and the messy hair.
She was dressed in her usual tank top and booty shorts that show off her great ass and way too much skin.
I had no idea how I was going to handle her handling my dick, while she pulled out the catheter. “Maybe we should wait for the doc.”
Maya chuckled softly. “Doc wouldn’t know what to do. Catheters have always been the nurse’s job.” She gathered up a bed pan and smirked at me. “Don’t worry Jason, it’s not like I haven’t see your dick before.”
I rolled my eyes and stared at the ceiling as she gently pulled back the blankets and sheet to reveal my naked ass.
Her hands were gentle as she worked the plastic tubing from my pierced cock and I groaned softly once it was fully removed.
She disappeared into the attached bathroom carrying the tube and attached bag that was full of urine.
Sighing, I pulled the sheet back over myself, so I wasn’t just sitting there naked while she emptied things and cleaned up in the bathroom.
A couple minutes later she came back in without her gloves on and grabbed a duffle bag from the floor by the door and set it on the bed.
She riffled through it before she pulled out a pair of basketball shorts—my basketball shorts.
“Nico went by your place,” Maya said as she walked around the bed. She pulled back the sheet and quickly got to work slipping the shorts over my feet and tugging them up my legs. I helped her when she got to my ass by lifting my hips.
I grunted slightly in pain, but we managed to get me half-dressed without causing me too much discomfort. She covered me back up and then handed me the plate with the PBJ. “Think you can eat this?” She put the plate on my lap.
“Yeah.” I grunted.
Maya went and opened her bedroom door, letting Marcos and Nico back into her room. Both men walked in after Maya walked out.
“So what’d I miss?” I asked.
“You guys got those three snakes we needed dead. Seratelli followed through on his end, Carmichael accepted the plea Wednesday. The D.A. got him before a judge and sentenced this morning, and Kara’s meeting with the board right now as we speak.
We’re just waiting for a call from her, before we head to the clubhouse to call a vote on taking out Hillcrest.”
“Good, let’s go.” I tried to sit up fully.
“Fuck no,” Marcos snapped. “You’re not going anywhere. You’ve been knocked from blood loss for the last two days! You had to get a damn blood transfusion. Your ass is sitting here till Maya says you can leave. And not a second before then!”
I grumbled, but leaned back against the pillows.
Marcos’s phone rang and he quickly pulled it out of his jeans pocket. “Lil Manita,” he answered the phone.
I waited, watching as my brother smiled broadly.
“Congratulations, Kara! I’m so proud of you!” Marcos beamed.
I sighed in relief. Kara had called with good news. That meant good news for the rest of us. We could kill Hillcrest.
“Alright, you have a good night! Go celebrate with your guys. Love you too.” Marcos hung up his cell phone and slid it back in his pocket. “We’re a go for Hillcrest.”
“Hell yeah. I’ll call church,” Nico said, reaching for his own phone.
I sighed, knowing they were about to take off and leave me behind.
“By the way, I got your bike from where you left it Wednesday. It’s back at your place.”
“Thanks. Call me later for the vote.” I sighed.
“Will do. Rest up brother.” Marcos walked over to the bed and pounded his knuckles against mine.
I nodded and the same with Nico. “Go easy on Maya, yeah?” Nico said.
