EPILOGUE
Before dawn, they relocated from the condo back to the compound, the normalcy of it almost surreal after all they’d gone through.
Sasha had almost died. Might have, if not for her lovers.
Her protectors.
My mates.
They were bound together now, blood and soul. Not something she’d ever expected to have happen, and yet it felt incredibly right and satisfying. And she didn’t just mean the sex.
The men completed her, which, as someone who’d fought her whole life to be independent and be seen as strong, sounded wrong. It was even harder to explain, other than they fulfilled something she didn’t know she’d been missing or needing until she got it.
The next sundown, she eyed them in the kitchen as they jostled for the food they’d pulled from the fridge. The appetites on them astonished. Then again, they probably required the sustenance to replenish after all that fucking.
So much fucking. The best of her life. Speaking of which?—
“You guys might want to see this,” Thaddeus called out from the great room, disrupting her plan to drag her wolves back to bed for another round.
“Uh-oh,” Diego muttered, grabbing a handful of cookies, which he chewed on as they went to join her boss.
They entered the great room to see the massive television playing a news report. The headline ticker stated, Massive Fire in Abandoned Industrial Complex.
The drone coverage from the air showed the warehouse as a smoldering ruin with officials in bright yellow jackets sifting the remains while a news anchor droned on about what officials thought had occurred. Sasha didn’t bother to listen. She knew the truth of what happened. Seeing it, though, reminded her the fight was not yet over. Already, Pierrot had a report of a dead body that seemed to indicate a few ghouls might have escaped—or that more had already been created.
Cyrus wrapped an arm around her and murmured, “Fuck me. I wish we could have saved the kids Monty kidnapped.”
Her boss cleared his throat. “According to my sources, preliminary reports seem to indicate the children weren’t in the warehouse. Of the bodies so far recovered by authorities, all of them are adult. The youngest, thus far, has been declared as a late teen or young adult.”
“Come to think of it, I don’t remember seeing any ghoulish toddlers, but then again, I was kind of busy at the time,” Diego remarked.
Sasha glanced at Thad. “If they weren’t inside the warehouse, then where are the missing children?”
“I don’t know, but I think it imperative we find out,” Thaddeus replied.
“How? Every clue we had died with Monty or burned in the fire,” Sasha reminded.
“There’s still Omar,” Amir murmured.
She glanced at her big lover. “You don’t have to be the one to seek him out.”
His expression hardened. “On the contrary, I want to be a part of the search. He might be my brother, but that doesn’t excuse his actions. I will find him,” Amir growled.
“Bring him to me and I’ll make him divulge everything he knows,” Thaddeus promised.
“We’ll start the hunt tonight,” Amir stated. “Who’s with me?”
“I’m in,” Sasha chirped.
“No, you’re not. You’re still healing,” Cyrus stated. “We three will go since we know Omar best.”
Sasha would have liked to argue, but they had a point. She could feel herself still weak from her ordeal. “I want to help.”
“Patience,” Thaddeus murmured. “The fight is only just beginning. Recover, train, and be ready, for it appears as if our Blood Pack is going to war.”
The wail of babies and whiny children caused a cringe. Annoying buggers. However, their young blood would be potent.
The one known as the master tapped fingers on the glass capsule. Within the murky liquid, she stirred.
“I’ve acquired fresh meat for you, my love. Do you wish to receive it via the tube, or are you ready to leave your healing bath and sink your teeth in something squirmy and fresh?”
A hand slapped the glass, the skin parchment thin and showing the pulsing veins under it. It pleased to see her recovered.
The master bellowed, “Prepare the queen’s chamber and bring her the youngest of our captives.” They were the most annoying to keep alive and quiet.
In short order, she’d been rinsed clean and brought to her bedchamber. From the bed, resting atop a mound of pillows, the queen drained three in a row before choosing to rest.
An excellent sign, and a good thing they had plenty more to feed her. Should they run out, they’d simply steal some more. Although, it might not be as easy, seeing as how the Lycans would be entering panic mode. The revelation of their existence to the humans would have them hyper vigilant and fortifying—against the wrong enemy. Thus far, the Lycan Council had kept tight muzzled about those being taken, which worked to their advantage. Not that it mattered if the Packs knew. The dogs could mount any defense they wanted. It wouldn’t matter. One word, one simple command and they would grovel. A drop of blood, just one, and they could be transformed into whatever tool was required. Hybrid, ghoul, obedient soldier. They would serve in whatever fashion their master demanded.
But it wasn’t just Lycans who would be used.
Vampires had also strayed far from their initial purpose. Just like humans had gotten much too self-important.
Not for much longer. Soon the world would learn to bow and pay homage to a forgotten god. Those that didn’t would die.
Soon, the world would come under his rule, with his beloved queen.
And there was no one alive that could stop them.
The danger is greater than ever. Are you ready for Packs at War ?
