CHAPTER FIFTEEN

“Why would Monty be heading for Diego and Cyrus’ pack?” Amir exclaimed once they hung up with Pierrot.

“I don’t know.” Sasha had never been more surprised than when Pierrot informed them the Range Rover had been there and back three times in the last month, and cell phone records showed numerous calls to Xander, the Woolly Pillars pack’s alpha, including one placed right after sunset. The phone had since been taken offline.

“Do you think he’s planning to massacre the Lycans in the compound?” Amir asked with a note of worry.

“Doubtful. Even Thad, as powerful as he is, wouldn’t be able to take on that many wolves.”

“Could be a false flag. Just because he’s been there before doesn’t mean that’s his current destination,” Amir pointed out.

“Even if he’s not, it’s the only clue we have. Monty must have had a reason for being in contact with that particular pack.”

“I have a hard time believing an alpha would be in cahoots with a vampire. Especially one murdering Lycans.”

“This Xander is most likely not aware.”

“Or he doesn’t care. After all, the fucker killed rogues and there are no laws protecting us.” A grumbled complaint.

“Technically not rogues, since some belonged to Thaddeus’ Blood Pack,” she reminded. “And I guarantee Nathan wouldn’t have condoned the way they were killed.”

“You do realize they won’t let in non-pack members,” Amir pointed out.

“I’m aware, which is why you’re to find us a motel near the compound and then send a text to Diego and Cyrus to meet us there.”

“Will do, but keep in mind, Xander might not let them in, given Nathan’s orders,” Amir reminded.

“Maybe not, but they’re our best chance. Or did you want to give up on your brother?”

Apparently not, because Amir was quiet for the next little bit as he searched for a motel and then sent a flurry of texts to his friends. When he finally put the phone aside, she poked.

“Well?”

“Soon as the boys get some tires on a car, they’ll be on the road. But at best, they’ll be a minimum two hours behind us, meaning we won’t see them until at least midnight, maybe later. The Woolly Pillars compound will be locked down tight at that hour, meaning we might be pooched until morning.”

“And on your own, since I’ll be hiding where the sun don’t shine.” Not ideal. She hated being away from her secured room.

“Morning might be too late for Omar.”

To that, she had no comforting reply. If Monty planned to kill Amir’s brother, chances were, it would happen either while en route or soon after their arrival.

Despite the plan to wait for Cyrus or Diego, she drove fast. Could be they might arrive in time to make a difference if Monty was planning to attack the compound. They arrived in the vicinity just before eleven, having had to stop not only for gas but also to put the roof up because the heavy moisture in the air hinted of rain.

The Woolly Pillars enclave didn’t appear to have anything going on. The gated community seemed quiet when they drove by the wrought-iron fence that surrounded it. Smart of the packs to gobble up the real estate when it became available. It allowed them to keep humans out.

Amir stared intently at the trees on the other side of the fence. “How can we find out if they’re inside?”

“We can’t, unless you’re planning to scale a fence, which I wouldn’t recommend. They’ve got security cameras watching the perimeter.” Soon as she spotted them, she steered away.

“Where are you going?”

“To the motel. If we start circling around, someone will likely notice. You won’t do your brother any good if they shoot you for skulking.”

“I’m going to try texting Omar again,” he muttered. He’d tried a few times previously but received message-failed notifications.

Ding .

“Omar just replied,” he exclaimed. “Says he’s fine and to stop acting like I care.”

“Sounds like your brother,” she muttered.

“Should I ask him about Monty?”

“Ask what, exactly?”

“I don’t know.” Amir slumped before stiffening. His fingers tapped.

“What did you send?” she asked, pulling into the motel parking lot.

“A message to Pierrot. Now that Omar’s phone is connected again, he should be able to give us a location.”

“Smart thinking, Puppy Chow. I’ll be right back.” Sasha went into the administration office and paid for the room in cash and exited with the keys.

She returned to find Amir excited.

“Omar’s in the Woolly Pillars compound,” he crowed.

“Good to know.”

“But in bad news, Diego and Cyrus just left. Apparently, it took longer than expected for them to swap out the tires.”

She parked the car at the far end of the motel strip. “In that case, you should try and grab a few hours shuteye,” she remarked as she let them into their room.

“As if I could sleep.” Agitation rode Amir and had him pacing the tight room.

Sasha lounged on a bed with the most hideous flowered comforter and watched him. Three stiff steps, abrupt pivot. And back again.

After several minutes, she complained. “You’re making me dizzy. Sit down.”

“I can’t,” he growled. “I fucking hate waiting.”

“Wearing a hole in the carpet won’t help.”

“Then what do you suggest?” he snapped, facing her bristling, his fists clenched by his sides.

“A distraction.”

“I’m not in the mood for television.”

“Neither am I.” She knelt on the bed and removed her top.

His jaw went slack. “What are you doing?”

“Stripping.”

“I can see that. Why?”

“Because you need to relax.” She stood on the bed and shoved down her pants.

Some of the tension eased from his frame as his expression smoldered with interest but also twisted with conflict. “Could you have chosen a worse time? My brother’s in trouble.”

“Yup, and we can’t do shit about it until the others arrive, and rather than watch you wear a rut in that carpet, why don’t you release some of your tension in a more pleasurable fashion?” Her panties went flying, and she planted her hands on her hips, posing her nude body.

“I’m not in the mood.”

“Fair enough.” She flopped onto the bed with her legs parted. His gaze went to the pink valley between her thighs and stayed fixated as she licked a finger to moisten it before sliding it down her body to touch herself. A little rub on her clitoris felt nice, but it wasn’t that tiny stroke that made her wet but the smoldering look on Amir’s face.

She parted her nether lips and dipped a finger, coating it in her honey. She then rubbed it over her clit, stroking that sensitive nub, enjoying the tingles that had her squirming. It felt good, but not as good as someone else touching her.

Amir remained standing as if carved in stone. A handsome man with a square jaw bristling with stubble. How she wished he’d scraped it along her skin.

Her fingers kept dipping and rubbing as she willed him to join her. While he’d yet to move, his body reacted to the show, the distinct bulge of his erection making her lick her lips.

“I can’t believe you’re doing this now,” his low growled complaint.

“I can’t believe you’re not licking me yet.”

Her free hand cupped a breast and pinched the nipple, making it pucker. He swallowed hard. Did he imagine latching on and sucking?

“Do you want to touch me, Amir?” she purred, undulating her body.

“Yes.” A strangled reply.

“I do too. Can you see how wet I am?”

“I can see. Smell. Want…” A husky reply.

“And yet you stand there while I play with myself.” She took a honey-slick finger and brought it to her lips for a suck.

He groaned.

“Come to me, Amir,” she whispered. “Taste me. Touch me. Fuck me. Bite me.”

He stiffly moved to the edge of the bed. “Why must you torture me?”

“I’m just giving you what you’ve been wanting.”

“I shouldn’t be enjoying myself while my brother is in trouble.” His murmured reply.

“Of his own making.” She didn’t sugarcoat Omar’s actions.

“Maybe, but I still have to help him.”

She understood and didn’t. On the one hand, there truly was nothing they could do for the moment. On the other, it wasn’t her family in danger. Never mind the fact Omar likely willingly participated. Amir still felt a strong sense of responsibility. She only hoped that when karma caught up to Omar, he didn’t drag his brother down with him.

“You’re an honorable man,” she replied. “Used to being the protector. The one making all the decisions. It’s how you’ve kept you and your siblings safe all these years.”

“It hasn’t been easy,” his soft admission. “A part of me wanted to belong to a pack. To let someone else be in charge, but Lorelei was just a kid when they kicked her out. I couldn’t leave her to struggle on her own. And then Omar…” He paused before adding, “The story I’ve told people about him leaving because our parents died and he didn’t want to be alone isn’t true. He was banished.”

“Why?”

“Because he’s a fuckup,” his bitter laugh. “The idiot seduced the alpha’s son, although seduce is being kind. He got him drunk.”

Sasha stopped playing with herself and sat up. “Are you saying he raped the alpha’s son?”

“More or less, not that Omar ever saw it that way.” Amir’s head ducked. “When Benedict sobered up, he told his dad what happened. Omar got the shit beaten out of him before they tossed him out.”

“And he ran to you.”

“Yeah. Convinced me this wouldn’t have happened if I’d not abandoned him for Lorelei.” Amir offered her a tortured expression. “But she needed me more than him. He had a home. A place. A pack for family, even once my parents died, whereas she only had me.”

Sasha knelt on the bed and put a hand on his chest. “Sounds like you’ve been under a lot of stress, but you’re not alone anymore. You belong to a pack now and have an alpha who might not be Lycan but will protect you—and your sister.”

“As if Thaddeus will give a shit about a dormant.”

Sasha laughed. “You’d be surprised. If she’s important to you, then Thaddeus will extend his protection to her even more so now that we know dormants were aptly named. While she might not transform, the wolf is still inside her. Roderick’s experiments proved that.”

Amir’s lips flattened. “I doubt Lorelei would want to live at the compound.”

“Understandable, but she could still be considered part of our Blood Pack, even if she doesn’t live inside our main compound. How would she feel about a condo and a job that pays better than what she’s probably making now?”

His gaze met hers. “What would she have to do?”

“A man like Thaddeus has interests around the world, business and personal. Given our difficulty with sunlight, he requires people he can trust to manage our affairs.”

“Lorelei would be good at that. She’s got a degree in finance, but I doubt Thaddeus will want me or my sister near him if Omar did betray.”

“Thaddeus judges people on their own merits, not that of others. You are a good man, and from what you’ve said about your sister, she shares your values.”

“Lorelei’s awesome.”

“As are you. Now that you’re with us, you can relax, as we will help you shoulder your burdens. It’s past time you indulged in a little selfish pleasure.”

She put her hand to his belt buckle.

“What are you doing?”

“Giving you the relaxation you need.” She unsnapped the buttons and pulled his zipper down, parting his jeans enough to see the bulge hiding in his briefs. A big bulge. “You don’t have to do anything but enjoy.”

“But what about your pleasure?”

She offered him a coy look as her hand slid past the fabric of his briefs and grabbed hold of his shaft. “Who says I won’t have fun sucking your big cock? I enjoy giving as much as receiving.” And with that claim, she put her mouth on the head of his penis and kissed it.
