“Your eyes are bleeding?” T.J. asks from what I’m hoping is a few steps down the hall.
I snort into my husband’s shoulder.
He grunts in response. “This isn’t funny.”
I fold my lips in to stifle my laughter, but another giggle escapes. “I’m sorry, but it really is.”
“Why don’t we go for a walk?” Lo suggests.
“But his eyes are bleeding. Shouldn’t we help him?”
The concern in T.J.’s voice sends me over the edge, and I completely lose it, laughing uncontrollably.
It takes Sully a beat, but eventually he laughs too.
Now that the moment has been interrupted, I’m reminded of the plans I have for today. And they don’t include hiding out in this bed for even a minute longer. Poor Sully doesn’t know it yet, but he’s definitely leaving Jersey withblue balls.
Several hours later, my husband is back to smiling. “I can’t believe you pulled this off.” He scans the entrance to the stadium like he’s memorizing every single detail.
Over the last few months, he’s planned date after date, and he’s gone out of his way to show me, in big ways and small, that he cares.
Today, I want him to experience a little bit of that magic himself. Also, today is the day I plan to tell him that I really want to give us a shot. That I’m in love with him. And I want to tell T.J. that his parents are back together. I’m ready to stop hiding from the world.
I want to be his wife again. Officially. And I want to do it in an epic way.
“Cal called in a favor for me, since the Metros are playing the Revs today.”
The owner of the Boston Revs, Beckett Langfield, is a client of the firm, so I asked Cal if he could get tickets. He did one better, and I’m buzzing with excitement to show Sully the suite. It’s the perfect way to propose an end to our separation and the beginning of a new chapter.
My husband’s face is lit up like T.J.’s when we take him for donuts. “Remind me to tell Cal he’s my favorite brother.”
Amusement threads its way through me. “Noted.”
With a spin, he dips closer, giving me his full attention. “And you’re my favorite wife.”
I grin.Thatis why I did this. I pop up on my toes and kiss him. “And you’re about to get very lucky, Sullivan Murphy, because we have a suite all to ourselves. How does a baseball game and a blow job sound?”
Even Sully’s eyes smile. “Perfect fucking wife.”
We make it upstairs, and his joy only grows when he discoversthat the suite is stocked with Strongbow, his favorite English beer, and Thatcher’s Gold, a cider.
I’ve also made sure to order the Italian sausages the stadium is known for.
As we settle in our seats, I swear my husband is happier than I’ve seen him in years. “This is incredible, sweetheart. I really appreciate it.”
Cheeks heating, I set a hand on my stomach. “You’ve done such a good job of taking care of Tia and me, so I wanted to do something special for you.”
He stretches out his legs, getting comfortable but also inspiring me to make good on my promise. The man has been more than patient. I won’t make him wait any longer.
I’ve just grabbed a pillow and am about to settle between my husband’s thighs when the door to the suite swings open and loud voices reverberate off the walls.
“Sully, my mate!” Beckett Langfield appears with his wife, Liv, by his side.
She offers a quick wave as I scramble up and fiddle with one ear, hoping like hell they believe I was retrieving an earring.
“There it is,” I say, my voice high-pitched.
Wide-eyed, Sully looks from me to his client and back again. With his blood all settled in his groin, it takes him a minute to catch up. I kick the pillow out from beneath his chair, praying our guests don’t notice.
