Page 36 of Best Vacation Ever
“Stop being a smart-ass,” I groan. “I don’t know why I thought coming to you for advice would be a good idea. You barely have two brain cells to rub together.”
“Hey, these two brain cells got me into the University of Toronto. It’s quality over quantity.”
Huffing in frustration, I flop onto my back on the bed.
“Seriously, Dylan. I’m screwed here. I need some male perspective.”
“Well, my male perspective is also saying that you’re screwed.
Does Adam know?”
“If you’re not going to help, I’m kicking you out—”
“Okay, okay.” The laughter in his voice dies. “Don’t kick me out, I’m sorry. It’s just easier joking about it than facing the reality that Adam is going to lose his shit if—when—he finds out.”
“I know.” My voice comes out small, and I can’t meet his eyes. “We already have a shitty relationship, and he won’t be happy about me and Kellan.”
“Well, if you’re worried about Adam, then what do you need advice on? How to stay away from Kellan? How to hide it better?”
I think about it. Do I want to stay away from him? Do I want to get over it? Do I want to figure out how to compartmentalize my feelings for him and keep it strictly about sex? Cut it off completely?
The revelation hits me at once. “I want advice on how to make Kellan like me.”
“Faye . . .” He groans, and I don’t need to hear him tell me it’s a terrible idea that probably won’t end well.
“I know, I know. I’m stupid. Just tell me what I should do.”
“Right, right, right.” He pauses, hopefully coming up with a perfect solution. “What have you been doing so far?”
Being crazy and jealous. “Oh, you know, just playing it cool.”
He snorts. “As evidenced by your actions today.”
I chuck a pillow at him, and it hits the side of his head before falling harmlessly to the floor.
“Real mature, Faye.” He picks the pillow up and throws it back at me, so I clutch it to my chest as he says, “Have you tried just telling him how you feel? Simple but effective.”
“What? No! I can’t do that!”
“Why not?”
Because it’s obvious he doesn’t feel the same way about me.
“I can’t just tell him that! And after all that with Kiara today?
It’s obvious he doesn’t see me the same way. I’ll look like an idiot if I admit I like him while he doesn’t feel the same . . .”
I toss the pillow I was clutching behind me as thoughts form quickly in my mind.
“Oh no,” Dylan says, “I know that face. You’re about to have a terrible idea.”
I ignore him and sit up straighter. “I realized my feelings when I saw him with Kiara, and I was jealous. I have to make him see me the same way I see him. I have tomakehim realize what he’s missing.”
“Don’t say it—” Dylan says at the same time I exclaim, “I have to make him jealous!”
Dylan frowns. “Faye. If you’re planning on going through with this, and ignoring everything that happened last time with Zach, then just tell Kellan how you feel.”
Kellan’s words from earlier come back to me.Just admit youlike me.
