Page 20 of Best Vacation Ever
I take a calming breath and turn to face Kellan. Why is he looking at me like he’s . . . what? Disappointed? Jealous? I didn’t see him caring about me when he was all over that girl two minutes ago.
I narrow my eyes at him, but before I can say anything, Darius stands and backs away. “Yeah, I’m going to go. Catch you later, Faith.”
“It’sFaye,” I call after him, but he’s already gone. I try not to let my annoyance that he got my name wrong show on my face, especially not in front of Kellan.
He sits down in Darius’s empty seat with a satisfied smirk.
“Wow. You sure know how to pick ’em.”
“You would know,” I shoot back, and he shuts up.
Good.
“Where’s Lori?” my brother asks as if he gives a damn.
Scanning the pool area, I spot her not too far off, talking to Dean.Good for her.
I point out her and Dean, and turn back to my drink, simmering in anger. I don’t see my brotherall dayand the one time Idon’twant to see him, he cockblocks me. I hope he doesn’t go and cockblock Lori too. That’s totally something he’d do.
“Where?” Dylan asks. “I see a smoking-hot babe talking to Dean.”
“ThatisLori,” Adam snaps, crossing his arms over his chest.
What’s his problem?
Dylan’s and Alessio’s eyes widen in recognition.“Whoa.”
Alessio tilts his head. “I knew she was hot, but damn, she’s even better without clothes on.”
My nostrils flare, and I try to swallow the rising jealousy. At least Kellan’s not staring at her like he’s never seen her before.
“You have agirlfriend, Alessio,” I remind him in a tone that’s harsher than necessary. “You remember Olivia, right? You’ve been with her for five years.” Olivia is Jenna’s much nicer, much quieter cousin. She’s my age but so smart she skipped a grade and ended up in Adam’s class. I’m not sure how smart she really is if she’s dating Alessio, but to each their own.
“Yes, I remember Olivia. Doesn’t mean I don’t have eyes,” he quips, downing the rest of his drink.
“Did she just slap his chest?” Kellan wonders aloud, and I turn around with alarm.
What? What is she doing? Why is her hand sitting on his chest like that?
“Hey, there you guys are!” It’s the Bollywood princesses that Dean was talking to before, plus another who happens to be the girl who was all over Kellan earlier.
They’re even prettier up close than they were from afar, and now my annoyance level is more than I can take.
I chug the rest of my drink and stand up.
“You guys are cramping my style. I’m going to go somewhere you’re not.”
I storm off to another, more secluded section of the large, irregularly shaped pool, a section that’s not visible from the bar.
Who am I to stand in the way of Kellan scoring tonight? If he wants to bang some girl, then I’m not stopping him.
But you want him to chooseyou.
I shove that thought deep, deep down in my mind. Kellan would never choose me; I’m his best friend’s kid sister. Nothing more than a quick, convenient fling.
“Running off to find that guy who didn’t even remember your name?”
I want to punch Kellan’s self-righteous smirk off his handsome face.
