Page 48 of Beautiful Scars: Unshakeable
We settle into the living room on opposite ends of the couch.
"I love her." The words come out more emotional than I intended.
"So do I."
"I know." And I do. It's been written all over his face for months. "So what does that make us now?"
"I have no fucking clue."
The honesty in his voice matches what I'm feeling completely.
"She deserves everything," I say quietly, thinking about the wonder in her eyes this morning, the way she discovered her own power. "After what she's been through... what we let happen to her..."
"We're not letting anything happen to her again."
"No." The conviction in my voice surprises me with its intensity. "We're not. Either of us."
Footsteps on the stairs draw our attention. Sunny appears, hair damp and curling around her shoulders, wearing one of my shirts and swimming in what looks like a pair of Levi's boxers. My heart skips and trips all over itself.
She pads over to us, settling between us like there's never been any other place she belonged. I hand her the coffee we made for her, our fingers brushing. She's different this afternoon. More confident. More settled.
"You two look serious," she says, glancing between us.
"Just trying to figure things out," I murmur, unable to resist leaning in. Her lips meet mine, soft and perfect. Her free hand slides over Levi's thigh, and she sighs deeply.
"Well, shit." Colt's voice breaks in and bursts the bubble we created around us. He's standing in the doorway with Wolf peering over his shoulder. They’re wearing identical grins on their faces. "Guess that answers that question."
"Shut up," I growl, but there's no heat in it. Sunny blushes but doesn't pull away from either of us.
"Looks like you've all had an interesting day so far," Wolf chuckles. "I never pictured you two being able to share anything, let alone..."
"You really want to finish that sentence?" Levi's tone carries a warning, but his lips twitch with a smile he's trying hard to hide.
"Nah, I choose life." Wolf raises his hands in surrender. "But seriously, everything good?"
Sunny looks up at me, then at Levi. The love in her eyes makes my chest ache. "Perfect," she says simply.
"Fuck! You two can stop gawking already. Can we get a little privacy please?" Levi barks at the two men who won't stop smirking.
"Message received." Colt steers Wolf back through the door. "But fair warning—Rex owes me fifty bucks now, and he isn’t the only one, so expect to hear about it later."
"You were betting on us?" Sunny sounds scandalized.
"Baby girl, we've been betting on you three since the first time you were all in a room together," Colt calls over his shoulder as they leave.
The silence that follows feels lighter somehow. Sunny curls closer to me while keeping her hand on Levi's thigh. It's awkward, but it also feels… inevitable. Like we've been moving towards this all along. Apparently, we were the last to know.
"They're never going to let this go, are they?" Sunny sighs.
"Never," Levi confirms, his hand finding hers where it still rests on his leg.
I press a kiss to her temple. "Does it bother you?"
"No," she says thoughtfully. "Not really. It helps make it feel... real. Like it's not going to just disappear."
Looking at her nestled between us, at peace despite everything she's been through, I know we can figure this out—find a way to make it work. We have to. Because, at least for me, there’s no going back.
