“Ack!”I blurt out, jumping to my feet.

“Wha-?”Enid turns to me, her eyes targeting the box in my hand.“Bernie?”

Insistent on doing this property, I kneel again, right as the tide is once more rolling in on me.With a soaked pant leg, I lift the box up to present to my love.

“The first time I knew I loved you I was soaked to the bone from rain, so I guess it’s only fitting that I am getting soaked by the ocean as I ask you, Enid Vaida, to be my partner for the rest of our lives. Will you marry me?”

“Ack, get up.You’re getting soaked,” she says, through tears and laughter.

As soon as I get to my feet, Enid flings her arms around me, shouting, “Yes, of course I will marry you!”

We stand there, kissing, as the high tide splashes our legs.We only pause our lip locking when something bumps my calf.

“Your sandal!”

My fiance runs into the waves to grab it while I save the other one before the water kidnaps it.I look up to see a half-soaked Enid, laughing, and carrying her shoe out of the ocean. She looks us both up and down, shaking her head and smiling.

“We look a sight.”

I pull her against me and kiss the tip of her nose.

“Worth it, though.”

“Yes, so very worth it.”

Epilogue

Enid

My husband surprisesme with a Valentine's weekend away at Dark Wings Manor. We left in such a whirlwind this morning that I haven’t had the chance to give him his Valentine’s gift.

After checking in, I follow him to our room.Tears spring to my eyes when I see where we are staying.

“The honeymoon suite?Where we first kissed?Bernie!”I say, wrapping my arms around his neck and pulling myself up to kiss him.

“There’s also snow in the forecast. We can just chill on the couch, with a fire going, snuggling, and reading all weekend. How does that sound?”

“Amazing, as long as we get in some exercise here and there,” I say, smacking his fine ass.

“Damn right we will.”

I giggle when he slaps my ass back.

“Oh hey, look. They left us a bottle of wine on the table.”He says, walking over to open it.

“Wait.Bern?I haven’t given you your Valentine’s Day gift yet.”

My husband arches an eyebrow at me.

“OK sexy, pony up,” he teases.

“Well, that wine is all yours.”I say, wondering if he will get the hint.

My husband furrows his brow, looking at the wine bottle and then back at me.I lightly place my hand on my belly. His warm brown eyes turn into enormous circles.

“Wait, seriously?!”

“I’m pregnant, Bern.”I say, my voice cracking.

Bernie is by my side in one stride, lifting me up into the air and covering my face with kisses. He gently places me back on my feet, staring deeply into my eyes.

“I love you so goddamn much, Enid.”

“I love you too, babe.”
