She turned to him.“Really? Are you going to do it?”
“Yes, because this one is fun.I’m supposed to convince you to take the position she’s offering you.”
Indigo sighed and relaxed against the cushion.“How many ways can I say no?”Maybe she’d try German next.Nein.Or French.Non.Maybe Russian.Nyet.One of them had to work, right?
Jordy leaned forward and peered at her face.“You’re seriously not interested?”
“Not in the least.”
“Indigo, the money would be outrageous. We’re talking seventh-level tax bracket.”
“So I’ve heard.I’ll leave it for Pammy.”
Jordy snorted.“They barely pay her minimum wage.Plus, Jinger plans on firing her, or so she says.”
“Well, she better not pull the trigger yet since I won’t be taking the job.”
She felt Jordy’s stare and turned to him.“What?”
“There’s nothing I can say to convince you, is there?”
“No.”
He collapsed against the seat.“Well, that bites.I’d love to have an ally around Evil Bitch Woman from the Bowels of Hell.I could see us becoming besties.”
He wouldn’t think that if he knew who she really was.“I could too.”
He sighed dramatically.“I guess I’ll have to settle for the few days we have.”
“Have you eaten breakfast?”
He shot to his feet.“No, and I’m famished.”
Indigo smiled as she stood.“I need to change.”
“Me too.Meet you at the restaurant in a few.”
They retreated to their suites.Indigo showered the chlorine off and quickly dried her hair. Then she found another sundress, this one pink with tropical flowers.
She beat Jordy to the cafe and perused the limited menu. When he arrived, they ordered and chatted while they waited for their food. They were almost finished when AC/DC’sHighway to Hellblasted from Jordy’s phone.
He rolled his eyes without checking the screen.“And so a new day begins.”He punched the button.“Hello, Jinger.”
“Get up here now.”She screamed it, so Indigo didn’t have to eavesdrop to overhear.
“Good morning to you—” He pulled the phone from his ear and looked at it.“Bitch hung up on me.”
“Please try to convince me to work for her again,” she deadpanned.
Jordy laughed as Indy’s phone buzzed. She answered it on speaker.“Hello?”
“Good morning, Indigo.Could you come up and make me beautiful now?”
Jordy’s mouth dropped open.
“Sure.I’ll be right up after I grab my kit.”
“Who was that?”Jordy wanted to know.“It sure as heck wasn’t the harpy shrew known as Jinger because she doesn’t do nice.”
