Page 13 of A World Apart (Between Worlds #1)
I turned on the overhead lights and tossed my bag across the room. Angry. At Trevor Kyle. At myself. Just… angry.
When my phone beeped, I was ready to toss it, too.
But that’s when I saw the name on the screen.
I slid my finger up the screen to unlock it and tapped on the message, heart thumping slightly.
Joon
Are you ok?
[Sent 08:57]
I tapped the side of my phone, thinking how to answer.
Me
Yeah, all good.
Joon
You didn’t look good.
[Sent 08:59]
Me
Lol! Thanks. I thought I looked nice today!
Joon
You looked sad :(
[Sent 09:02]
Me
You’d be sad too if you were stuck in an elevator with TK.
Joon
Did he do something bad?
[Sent 09:06]
Apparently, he was not going for my ‘play it off’ tactic.
Me
No, Joon, it’s cool. He’s just a prick
He took so long to reply that I figured he must have had to put his phone away, but just as I’d stopped staring at my screen, it chimed.
Joon
You called me Joon. You never have before.
[Sent 09:12]
Me
Maybe not to you ;)
Joon
Ah, so you talk about me, I understand ;)
[Sent 09:14]
Me
Yeah, moaning about how badly you tuned that guitar.
Not my best work and took way too long to think of that come back. It would have been much faster had I not spent a solid two minutes biting my fist.
Joon
I made you moan?
[Sent 09:19]
I had to quickly pick up my tossed rucksack so I could stifle my scream into the fabric.
Joon
Ah, sorry, my English is not so good.
[Sent 09:20]
Me
Don’t you ? a super famous pop artist ? have actual work to do right now?
Joon
Always. Will I see you later?
[Sent 09:23]
Me
I hope so.
Go make another Billboard hit. I’ll be around.
Joon
I said something wrong before.
[Sent 09:26]
Me
***
Joon
You look really good today.
[Sent 09:30]
I put my phone back in my pocket and held my fist to my lips, pressing my smiling mouth against it, feeling that now-familiar fluttery feeling in my chest.
Oh boy, I was in trouble.
