“We really can’t be seen with you,” Finn mutters.
Luna Flora puts her hands on her hips. “Are you really embarrassed of your own mother!?”
Finn tries to argue, with most of the others chiming in. While they bicker, Nox turns to me. “And you were worried.” He chuckles.
“There was nothing to be worried about,” Liam says.
“He is right,” Alpha Elden reassures me, putting a hand on my shoulder and his other arm around Aurelia. “I feel very pleased that all my children were so lucky with their fated mates. It’s something to be truly happy about as a parent.”
“Thank you, Alpha Elden.”
“Please.” He chuckles. “It’s just Elden to you.”
“So, Dad,” Liam says, gesturing towards his brothers, who are still arguing with their mother. “When will you stop the drama?”
“She is just so adorable when she is annoyed.” He grins.
Aurelia and Liam exchange an amused gaze before Liam and Elden finally intervene. “Let’s go and have lunch,” Liam says simply.
“I am hungry,” Elden states.
“Are you hungry and ready for a messy family lunch?” Aurelia asks.
“As ready as one can be,” I say with a smile.
While I follow her inside, she introduces more of their ranked members to me. I meet Beta Vincent, also Flora’s guardians, Gamma Aurel and Beta Edward, both of them seem to be calm, composed men, which is kind of funny, considering how much of a whirlwind she is.
Aurelia’s—and my—friends join us, too. When everyone gathers for lunch, I can’t help the familiar twinge in my chest. Vander would have loved this. He would have gotten along so well with the twins, and he would have had so much fun with Aurelia’s older brothers. Had he had a chance to live here, I think he would have lived life to its fullest, enjoying every moment.
I can feel Aurelia’s hand reaching for mine under the table, squeezing it slightly.
Her touch reminds me that I’m here now. I can grieve my brother for as long as I need, maybe forever, but my grief can’t overshadow everything else. Living life to its fullest and becoming the best version of myself. That’s what I need to do.
For Vander.
For Eric.
For Aurelia.
But also, for myself.
Chapter fifty-nine
Bonus
There is a chilly wind blowing outside while clouds cover the moon. A dark night without any stars blinking in the sky. I prefer the snowy months over the warmer ones, when the snow covers each and every one of my paw prints, but spring and summer in Silverlake are beautiful too.
With a graceful movement, I push the window from my suite further open and climb out of it, and then further up the roof until I reach the top of it. There, I sit down for a while, gazing around me and eyeing the pack area from this point above them. They are weird; the wolves and humans alike, but also oddly fascinating.
They were wary of me at first, when I ate that one chair that had the audacity to almost drop onto me. But I am not here to hurt any of them.
“Titan, are you outside?” Aurelia leans out the window, her beautiful, dark-brown hair dancing in the wind. She is a truebeauty. Strong, sophisticated, confident. Worthy of being my companion.
“Is he out there?” Arden asks.
I don’t mind him being with Aurelia. I didn’t like him at first, but he has brains. His mind and intellect clearly stretch further than those of others. It’s fascinating. Not many of them are that smart.
Well, many of my kind aren’t either.
I was lost in this world when the dimensions got twisted and the doors opened for a brief moment. Some of us entered this realm, including a lowly drool-monster within them. He lives in a pack nearby with a human and a lycan. He has the brain size of a pea, but he is strong, and no danger to the humans and wolves of his pack.
My original plan was to return home, but now I don’t feel like going back. I like it here. They treat me well. The beautiful luna sometimes brushes my fur, and the twins play with me.
It’s never boring. This is my new kingdom now.
“Titan?” Aurellia calls out again, leaning forward further and eyeing the roof. “Come, I have fresh food for you.”
I stretch my paws slightly before getting up and climbing back down. Food, what kind of food? I hear some rustling coming from inside the apartment, and the scent of tuna fills my nose. I climb down further and jump back through the window where Arden is pouring tuna into my bowl.
My kingdom can wait.
