Aero Plants: Spiky succulent plants found within underwater Naiad colonies to supply oxygen
Blood Betrayal: Naiad slang for Sanguis Proditionis. Blood taken from a Videre to grant their blood-word Naiads freedom
Byssus: A fine, rare fiber of sea silk woven from the filaments of a mollusk, found in the Juile Sea
Corda-cruor: “Blood bond” the mate of a Naiad (or the act of mating). Can be shortened to cordae
Drone: A Naiad forced to spend extended time in the “inbetween” during adolescence, changing their biology and stripping them from water-calling and other Naiadic abilities
Garieh Kon: A Naiad colony in Illuskia
Gnat: Naiad slang for “Drone” meaning “stingerless” or “powerless” (offensive)
Hive Heir: Naiad slang for “Prizivac Vode”
Incant/Incantation: The act of singing to a human and taking over their mind
Oculos: The eyes and ears of a Videre. A spy
Perpetuum: The afterworld (ruled by Theia)
Prizivac Vode: Any descendant or offspring of a Videre
Sanguis Proditionis: Blood of a Videre that, when consumed, would grant their blood-sworn servant freedom from their vows. One drop grants one day
Shield weed: Protects humans from incantation. Toxic to Naiads, especially in ash form
Siliqua Domus: A blood-related branch of a Naiad Colony. Sometimes referred to as a family pod (can be shortened to domus )
Spiculae: Bony processes along a Naiad’s spinal column that fire nerves when one Naiad looks at another, producing the feeling of cold prickles under their skin
Transition: The act of changing from Naiad to human form (or vice versa)
Triad: The power (or balance) of three
Vacous: A human currently under the power of incantation
Videre: The monarch of a colony. Female Naiads may also go by “queen” (there are no king Naiads)
