Page 21 of A Real Good Lie
“He’s here.”
“Who?” Jace looked around.
“Him,” Callahan whispered with such resentment and animosity, Jace felt it in his bones and immediately knew whohimwas.
Rhys.
Jace took a step closer, reaching out for Callahan.
“What’s he look like? So I can keep an eye out?”
“He’s…”
But Jace didn’t get an answer; instead Callahan surged forward, crashing their mouths together without another word.
Chapter Seven
Callahan Can’t Stop Kissing
Callahan didn’t mean to kiss Jace, but he saw Rhys and he panicked. He’d ignored Jace for most of the flight because his brain was utterly scrambled. His chest ached with desperation to touch the man beside him again, to feel his mouth, to remember even a fraction of what it had been like the night they’d met.
But this was…not how he’d planned it.
The whole weekend with Jace was meant to be an act, whether an act of mercy or pity, he didn’t know, but Jace wasn’t here because he wanted Callahan. He was here as a favor for Sebastian.
But the way Jace kissed him back didn’t feel like either of those things. Jace’s mouth was hot and needy, like he was as hungry for Callahan as Callahan was for him. Callahan moaned and Jace fisted his shirt, hauling him closer, pressing his tongue deeper into Callahan’s mouth.
He swallowed with a groan, tangling their tongues together. Jace growled, aligning their bodies and sliding his hand down Callahan’s front, grabbing him and holding him steady. Jace’s fingers gouged into his waist, and he tilted his head to the side, deepening the kiss.
It was indecent.
It was…everything.
“I thought you were a child when we broke up and that was a lifetime ago.”
A voice grated on his nerves, and Callahan pulled away. Their mouths separated with a slippery and wet sound, and Jace’s stare narrowed in on Callahan’s swollen and red lower lip. He reached up and pulled at it with his thumb, wiping a bead of spit away. Callahan’s nostrils flared and his eyes were heavy, but he was aware of the way Jace’s attention made him feel. Jace watched him as though he was the only man in the airport.
The airport.
Shit.
Rhys.
“Who are you?” Jace asked.
“Who areyou?” Rhys sneered at him.
“This is Jace,” Callahan answered, his eyes still heavy and barely focused.
Rhys was there, in the airport, in front of him with his round blue eyes and his gelled-back blond hair, and he looked every bit the grown up version of the man-child who’d broken Callahan’s heart.
“Jace,” Rhys repeated, his lip pulling up toward his nose in a scowl.
“I’m Callahan’s boyfriend,” Jace said, pulling Callahan against him and kissing his temple. Callahan was glad Jace was taller than him, taller than Rhys. His mouth was still warm from their kiss, and Jace looked down at Rhys with a smug smile.
“I’m Callahan’s ex-boyfriend.”
“Mmmn.” Jace shrugged. “Okay. Well. Bye then.”
