“Friend, how do you go on vacation and come home a married woman?” Amelia’s shocked tone flowed through my truck speakers as I pulled out of the employee parking garage at work. “I can’t believe you’re Mrs. Adrian Mills!”

Glancing down at the massive nine-carat, oval-cut diamond nested above a diamond-studded halo on my ring finger, I couldn’t help but smile.

It’s been a month since Adrian and I eloped in Portugal, and I’ve been over the moon ever since.

Some days, I don’t even remember my name because all he says is “my wife” this and “my wife” that.

I love it, though, because all I found myself saying is “my husband” for any and everything.

“Girl, I can’t believe it my damn self!” We shared a laugh as I whipped through traffic.

I had thirty minutes to get to my doctor’s appointment or they were going to reschedule my ass.

It was time for me to get more birth control, and I was on two wheels headed there. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

When we arrived home, I figured that once we told his family, planning would begin for a wedding and many parties and gatherings to celebrate.

To my surprise, Adrian sat me down and expressed that he didn’t want to have a ceremony until my father was able to walk me down the aisle.

He wanted me to tell my dad the news, too, before he told his family.

A couple of days later, my father called, and I broke the news to him.

I was so nervous about how he would react, but he was calmer than I expected.

He’s had a few phone conversations with Adrian, and while nothing beats getting to know someone in person, they now have a budding relationship.

He sent me his well wishes and couldn’t wait to give his baby away.

He also asked me if I would be able to visit in a few weeks, and even told me to bring my new husband with me.

They were going to love each other once they met in person.

After doing what Adrian had asked of me, he wasted no time telling everyone we were married.

The man has a billboard in downtown Milly Grove still up, with pictures of our hands together captioned, “We’s Married Nye.

” I probably should have been ashamed, but I didn’t expect anything less from Adrian Mills.

“Amelia, I don’t pay your blueberry muffin-headed ass to sit on the phone and gossip all day.” I giggled as I heard Adrian fuss through the phone. Those two really did act like brother and sister. “Sweep the damn floor if you need something to do.”

“I’m on break and talking to my man.” She sassed before I heard shuffling through the phone. “Ouch, nigga! Move!”

“Who the fuck is this?” His deep voice flowed through the speaker after a few seconds of rustling. “The fuck you doing calling my sister, nigga?”

“Hey, husband!” I purred as I pulled into the lot of my gynecologist’s office. “I miss you, daddy.”

“Wife…” He breathed, happy to hear my voice. “Where you at? Come to Urban Sole so I can eat your pussy real quick.”

“Adrian!” I giggled, getting out of the car. “You know I had a doctor’s appointment today. I just got here.”

As much as I love my husband and want to start a family with him, I want to enjoy him for another year or two as a wife.

He wasn’t too thrilled about me coming in to weigh my options for birth control, but after telling him we could have as many kids as we wanted when the time was right, he was okay with it.

He said he would just keep practicing, praying, and nutting in me every chance he gets.

I took that information seriously, which is why I was about to break my leg trying to jump out of my truck.

“I hope they turn your ass around at the door. Trying to keep my kids from me and shit. Move, Millie. Go talk to them people over there and see if they need help. The fat-ass kids look like they steal.”

After hearing him cuss out various customers, I entered the office, telling him I’d call him when I was finished. Once I was checked in, I wasn’t in the lobby ten minutes before the door was chiming and someone else was walking in.

“Oh my gosh…” I looked up from my phone at her voice and frowned at the sight of a very pissed off Talena. “It’s bad enough you took my man and married him. Are you pregnant by him too?”

Looking around to see who she was talking to, it slowly dawned on me that her questions were directed to me.

The last thing I wanted to do was put my hands on this girl in this nice establishment, but then it occurred to me that I didn’t have to.

My man told me I didn’t have to lift a finger trying to deal with his past hoes, and I wouldn’t.

Adrian Mills is mine, so there was no need for me to worry my pretty little head about anything that happened before me.

“Talena, the old me would have picked up one of these chairs and beat your ass with it.” I smiled as the nurse called out my last name. Hearing the words made her break out into tears. “I wish you peace and a new dick to bounce on. Adrian’s has a new owner. Toodles!”

Flashing my ring finger at her, she was so distraught that she ran out of the office. Adrian’s pipe game is immaculate, so I get it, but there’s no way I would be out here suicidal over a man that did nothing but smear nut on my chin.

“Hey, Mrs. Mills. I hear congratulations are in order!” the nurse practitioner greeted me once I was in the back. “What brings you in today?”

“Thank you.” I smiled as I got comfortable in my seat.

Looking around at all the baby photos on the walls made me smile.

“Since I’m newly married, I would love to wait a little while before my husband and I start a family.

He’s a handful by himself.” I couldn’t help but giggle, causing her to do the same.

“I would like to get off the pill and get something a little stronger, if possible.”

“Sure.” She nodded, grabbing her chart. “When was your last cycle?”

Opening my Flo App, I went to the calendar and noticed it had been over two months since I’d logged a cycle.

To the normal person, that would be a red flag.

For me, being late wasn’t anything to get hype about.

Since I was younger, my cycle has always been irregular, and the birth control has never regulated it.

Instead, I only bled two to three days before it was gone again.

“It looks like I haven’t had one in two months. But that’s happened before.” I shrugged, closing the app and placing my phone back in my new Chanel Vintage Heart bag.

“Okay, has anything changed in your dieting or sleep habits?” she asked as she notated the information given. “Any concerns?”

“No, not really,” I answered honestly. “I’m a little more tired lately because of working overtime at the hospital, but nothing alarming.”

“Could you be pregnant, Mrs. Mills?”

I know the question was routine, but the thought made my heart rate increase. Wild and I aren’t always careful—never careful, if I’m being honest. We used condoms a few times in the beginning, but as much as we’ve been going at it since making up over three months ago, anything was possible.

“I see the hesitation all over your face.” She gave me a small smile before rising from her stool and walking to the other side of the room.

“I’m going to get a blood and urine sample from you, love.

” Checking the time on her watch, she sighed.

“I hate to ask you this, but can I get the samples and give you a call with the results. I don’t want to ring any alarms unless I’m sure we’re in the clear. The girls need to head to lunch, and?—”

I snickered, waving her off. “I get it. I work at the hospital, remember. I know how you barely have time to think sometimes, so you have to grab any opportunity you can.” Taking the cup, I hurriedly went to the restroom to give her a urine sample first. Another technician was setting up to take blood when I came back and was very efficient at finding my “good” vein and getting the three vials she needed.

Stepping back into the room while I was gathering myself to leave, the nurse practitioner handed me some pamphlets on my birth control options.

“I will give you a call as soon as I have the results, love. We took an extra vial of blood to run a few more lab tests to check your overall health since you mentioned the tiredness. Do we have your permission to do so?”

“Of course! Thank you so much for being proactive about that. Didn’t even think to ask.”

Smiling, she nodded and pointed to the papers I was now holding.

“Take a look at those, Mrs. Mills, and do some Googling too. I want you to be informed about which contraceptive you’re wanting beyond the pill when we schedule you to come back in.

Thank you again for understanding the delay on your service today. ”

After ensuring her that all was well, I slipped back into the waiting area and signed off on the documents needed to run the lab work.

I made my way back to my truck, low-key mad that I didn’t think about the possibility of me being pregnant before this appointment.

I’ve never had a pregnancy scare, so thinking about it happening was not natural for me.

Pulling out of the lot, I noted the cloudless sky, with the sun shining brightly, yet the temperature outside was mild.

It was a pretty day out; a perfect day for a park picnic, but the heaviness of my next appointment lingered.

Hopefully, the phone call coming would be scheduling my new contraceptive, and not telling me that I was growing another Baby Mills. Miss Evie had her hands already full with Gi Baby. A little Adrian would send that fine woman straight to her grave.

“Thank you for joining me. I honestly didn’t think you would accept the invite.”
