S he should have been more aware. But she was so naive. He’d followed her for hours before he finally let her see him. He wanted her to know he was there. He wanted her to feel it— fear . That part never got old. Not even after all these years.

She had no idea he’d been watching until he allowed it. Until he made her feel it. The weight of his stare. The presence she couldn’t explain.

He knew Baird was crafting some elaborate plan to protect her—always the noble one. And he knew Baird could sense him. That instinct of his was still sharp.

So he stayed just far enough away. From him. From them. He didn’t want to tip Baird off. Not yet. He wasn’t ready.

He was forcing them together. Guiding it. Watching it unfold. How could Baird not fall for her? She was stunning—so full of life it practically spilled out of her.

He wanted them closer. Closer still. Until Baird couldn’t deny what he felt.

And then he would use that to his advantage.
