Page 91 of A Cold Hard Truth
“I met Rhys,” he said.
Jace paled. “When?”
“Just now.” He waved dismissively behind him toward the museum. “He came to collect Sebastian.”
“What does that mean?”
The waitress set down a glass of white wine at the table, and Remington took a grateful swallow.
“I don’t know,” he said. “Sebastian and I spent the night together. I went to work, then when I came outside on my way to meet you, they were both there. Shiny car waiting.”
“What did he say?”
“There was something at home they had to take care of.”
“What something?” Jace pressed.
“He didn’t say.” He took another swig of his wine. “Rhys is a piece of work.”
“I told you.”
“Callahan really used to date that guy?”
“I know.” Jace nodded and traced his finger down the menu, tapping a few times before looking up at Remington. “I’m sure it’s nothing. Rhys has a flare for the dramatic is all. He’s not getting the attention he needs, so he has to come find some.”
“Is that your professional opinion?” He shoved the menu toward the side of the table.
“I survived a weekend with him.”
“You ran away.” Remington couldn’t stop himself from laughing. “You came home early because he was so horrible.”
“I’m sure it’s fine,” Jace said again. “Tell me more about things with Sebastian.”
“Things with him are fine. They’re good.”
The waitress came back, timid in her approach because of the heated conversation. But they ordered, and he got himself another glass of wine for good measure. He wouldn’t be getting anything done the rest of the day, anyway.
“Elaborate,” Jace prompted.
“Do you really want to do the sex talk?”
“The idea of you having sex amuses me.” Jace smirked. “Yes, I want to.”
“I won’t violate Sebastian’s privacy.”
“Then just tell me the you parts.”
“It’s all kind of intertwined.”
Jace leaned back in his chair and gave Remington a doubtful look. “I know you better than that. I know there’s Remington-specific things going on in that head of yours.”
“You’re right,” he agreed, “but they’re all hiding right now. Rhys really…”
He trailed off, not willing to finish the sentiment.
“He has a way about him,” Jace finished.
“I’ve never told you, but…” Remington paused, trying to force the admission. “I come from money.”
