Story: Wilde Love
She squeezed him tighter. “I just want you to be safe.”
He kissed her on the head again. “I know. I’m working on it.”
She leaned back and looked up at him. “Hurry up.”
He kissed her softly, wanting to take the kiss deeper, so he could show her how much he appreciated her.
But the door opened, and Aria walked in. “Oh. Sorry. Bad timing.”
Lyric released him. “It’s okay. Let’s get out of here.”
They all walked out together.
It was Lyric who took his hand. He squeezed hers back.
They walked onto the elevator, and Aria hit the button for the first floor. “So you two are really a thing now?”
“Yes,” Lyric said. “Though, we’d appreciate it if you kept that private.”
“What’s going on with Rick?” Aria asked. “He was with you when you got hurt, but you didn’t want him to bring you here.”
“Did he hurt you?” Viper wanted every detail.
“No. Not exactly.”
The elevator doors opened, and Lyric tried to walk off it, but Viper held her hand. “What does that mean?”
She tugged him to follow her out into the lobby area and across the way to the pharmacy.
Viper handed the lady at the counter his prescription. She entered it into the system, found his information, then went to fill the order.
While they waited, Lyric answered Viper’s question about how she really got hurt. “Rick surprised me. I dropped a plate. We had a conversation. He was happy that I agreed to sit down and work on some music with him. He came at me. I stepped back, slipped on the spilled food, landed on my ass, and I got stuck by the plate shard.”
Viper swore under his breath, picked up the meds from the counter, paid the small fee, then came back to her. “What do you mean he came at you?” He touched her back to get her moving out of the hospital and to the parking lot.
“I think he wanted to kiss me, but I stepped back so he’d know I was not into that, but then I slipped.”
Viper glared. “So he did this to you.”
Lyric stopped and put her hand on his chest. “It was an accident. That’s all.”
Aria hit the Unlock button on the key fob. “Why don’t you just tell him to leave you alone?”
“I have. He’s persistent. And Hunt told me not to antagonize him or it could make the situation worse.”
Viper fumed. “I don’t like it.”
Lyric tugged on his hand to get him moving again. “I know. It’s sweet. I appreciate it. But you have nothing to worry about. There’s only one person I’m interested in. That’s you.”
He opened the car door for her and waited for her to get in the front passenger seat as Aria took the wheel. “Are you sure?”
“Who’s here with me? Who am I going home with?”
He went still.
Aria glanced over at them. “Where am I taking you? Rick’s likely still at the bar waiting for you to return.”
Lyric looked up at him. “My place or yours? Either way, I’m not leaving you alone with a head injury tonight.”
