His shoulders eased when the reptile grunted behind them and jogged off. The human female instantly started running again.

“Thank you,” he called to her, but she ignored him. “I can help you,” he tried again, yet still got nothing.

The female attempted to duck through another door and he swiftly followed.

The female whirled around as he joined her in the sprawling suite.

“Seriously, I know you want to help, but just go. Help the others. Get out while you can,” she tersely shouted.

He glanced around. This had to be the Vicarius’ quarters, but no one was here.

“I can’t do that now. I followed you and you have all the access to the doors and exits,” he commented, trailing her into another room, curious of what she was up to.

“Of course. Great! I don’t have time for this shit.” She quickly grabbed the bag stashed in the corner.

He stood in the doorway preventing her retreat and lowered his armor, so she wasn’t looking at the face of the same race who had enslaved her.

“Please let me help,” he urged.

The pale-haired female’s expression softened and she reached up and touched his cheek. Her eyes were the color of a storm, sad and turbulent.

“You are sweet. But you can’t help me.” She shook her head then ducked past him.

His hand shot to his tingling cheek. The sensation of her small hand lingered, searing through his shell straight to the quick. His heart quickened. His shell had responded to her touch.

That could only mean…

He spun in time to see the pale-haired female with stormy eyes fleeing the suite. More than before, Scala couldn’t let her go. She was his mate.
