“You’re going to be my Daddy now?” Becka placed a small hand on each of his cheeks, something she did when she wanted his full attention. Her smile was gone, replaced by a serious look in her blue eyes.
Beckett smiled and kissed the tip of her nose. “Oh, sweetheart. I already am your Daddy. We’ve just got to fill out the paperwork to make sure that everyone knows it.”
Madi had tears shining in her eyes as she stood on tiptoes to plant a tender kiss on Beckett’s jaw. “I love you,” she murmured.
He met her gaze, knowing that his own eyes were already wet. “I love you too.”
The courtroom doors opened before them and another family stepped out, smiling and teary, clutching a little boy in the smallest blue suit. A look of understanding passed between them as they passed by and Beckett felt a warm ache in his chest.
“Van de Kamp? It’s time.” The bailiff held open the doors to the courtroom.
Beckett kissed Becka’s cheek and took Madi’s hand as they stepped forward to finally and officially become the family that he already knew they were meant to be.
