Story: Substitute Bride

“Sir, I had a small accident in which my husband and I got injured...”

(When Vikrant was driving angrily, his car suddenly collided with the vehicle. Fortunately, they weren't seriously injured, but Vikrant became extremely protective after that. As a result, he didn’t allow her to come to the office for two days, insisting she rest.)

“Husband? Your resume has a single status.” Vikrant teases her.

“Sir, I got married 4 months ago, and probably soon we will get divorced, and I was in dire need of a job. My resume was already prepared, and it mentioned ‘single’ on it, and I didn’t notice it at all at that time. I am sorry; I didn’t intend to cheat the company, but I assure you that your work will not be affected by whether I am married or not.”

Vikrant, who was listening to her very calmly, gets very shocked on hearing about the divorce and gets furious. He starts grinding his teeth, but he does not want to make any mistakes that he might regret later, as he has already made a significant error and is currently facing the consequences.

“Okay, I would rather not get into this. I want to ask you, do you have any problem with anyone in your office, or do you feel that someone is not loyal to the company? Are you facing any difficulty in your work?”

“Sir, I don’t have any difficulty in my work, but I want to tell you something very important that no one here would dare to tell you, because I think everyone is afraid of him.”

“Who?” He inquired.

“Manager Patil…”

"Manager Patil is known to be an excellent worker, and to date, no one has complained about him. If you are facing any problem because of him, then you can tell me."

“No one has complained to date because Manager Patil has very good control over everyone. He had clearly told me that whenever I get a call from the CEO, if I complain against him, then he will fire me from the job the very next day and will not let me get a job anywhere.”

“Is that so… What exactly does Manager Patil do?”

“Sir, whether the girl is single or married, Manager Patil keeps an eye on every girl, and every Saturday he has a ‘perfect choice’ ready…”

“If that’s the case, and the girls are going with him of their own free will, then there’s nothing big in it.”

“The girls who did not go with him willingly have been fired from your office. And as far as my colleague told me after I joined, if you want to keep your job, you have to agree to everything Manager Patil says. Otherwise, my condition will be like that of the other girls, and I won’t get a job anywhere. You have information on every employee of your office, so you will have information on every girl. You can find out if you like. Maybe no one told you before because they thought this was a small matter. But I want to say this openly: I am not at all scared of losing my job. I have told you so that this does not happen to anyone else. And as far as any kind of compromise is concerned, I will not do that at all.”

There is constant silence between the two. Vikrant’s blood boils after hearing all this, but he cannot completely disbelieve Manager Patil either, because Patil has supported him a lot for years. Still, if Jhankar is saying something, he is ready to consider it seriously. So he immediately tells Jhankar:

“You keep working there, and the day Manager Patil asks you to compromise, you tell me that very day. From now on, I will call you on your personal mobile number every day. If there is any problem, then you tell me first… and yes, I know very well what problem my employees are facing. I also know that you don’t have a good mobile phone yet, so as soon as you come out of the office, you will receive a mobile and my personal number will already be saved. This is a gift from me to you because you havegiven me very valuable information, and I want to catch him red-handed.”

“Sir…”

Vikrant doesn’t want to hear “no,” so he immediately disconnects the call. He gets up from his seat in anger and starts shouting without any delay.

“Akhil… Akhil…”

Vikrant’s voice echoes through the office after a long time, due to which everyone gets frightened. Akhil runs inside.

“Yes, sir…”

“How many girls have worked at V International to date? How many have been fired? How many have left the job? And what are these girls doing after leaving or getting fired? I need all their information by this evening.”

“Sir…”

“Do it…”

Vikrant is going mad with anger. He starts looking outside to calm himself, but again and again, Jhankar’s words echo in his mind, especially where she said she is going to get a divorce soon.

“Divorce… What difference does it make to me if you want a divorce? But why is this word bothering me?”

Vikrant hits his hand on the table with force, and then, looking at the blood, says to himself:

“Why…”
