Story: Sin City Lights
Eve strolled in beside Adam, heels clicking on the expanse of polished hardwood. The ceilings soared to at least twelve feet, and though the bed was a king, it was dwarfed by the size of the room. On the opposite veined white marble wall, a linear glass fireplace, below a large, flat-screen TV.
“The floors are natural mahogany,” the Realtor said.“The fireplace is gas.” She picked up a remote from the nightstand. One click, and the fire whooshed to life with blue flame that slowly turned golden.
Eve glanced up at Adam to gauge his reaction. He, however, was assessing the other wall, mirrored floor to ceiling. A half-smile played about his lips, and when his gaze flicked down to hers, she saw a fire far brighter than the one the Realtor had just ignited.
His hooded gaze held Eve’s.“Nice mirror,” he said under his breath, in that low voice of his.
Butterflies immediately burst and flitted in her lower belly.
How good it was to have him back.
Thankfully, the Realtor was oblivious to Adam’s suggestive look and comment.
“As you can see, you have a spectacular view of the strip from here.” She swept a hand toward the wall of windows at the back.
Adam’s gaze crisscrossed the room as he traversed it in measured strides.“Ah, the infamous strip. Can’t get away from it, even out here.”
“But this is far enough, right?” Eve leaned into him, surveying the entire length of the strip and the craggy mountains behind it.
“Indeed, it is.” His eyes tracked slowly, left to right.
“It’s gorgeous at night.” Barbara bubbled with enthusiasm.“Even better viewed from outside. We’ll head out there so you can see your patio, but first, the dual walk-in closets and the bathroom.”
This house, so far, had been a dream come true. Minutes from the strip, it was situated on a hill, above all others in the neighborhood, offering privacy without being isolated. They had already toured the three guest rooms, two offices, and the enormous chef’s kitchen, with its sleek wood cabinets and state-of-the-art appliances. Adam had given her the eyebrow at the sight of a high countertop between the kitchen and the expansive living area.
The more she saw, the more Eve fell in love, and Adam loved it too, as far as she could tell.
“How many acres again, Barbara?”
“Two and a half. I think I already mentioned it’s custom privately gated.”
Adam nodded.
“How far is it from LarsAir?”
“About fifteen minutes, depending on traffic. You have easy access to the interstate, restaurants, and places to shop.”
The bathroom was enormous. On one side, a giant jetted tub with tan granite surround. Adjacent to it, a matching shower with multiple body sprays.
The glass doors were clear. Oh, what a view that would be, with Adam in that giant shower. And there was ample room to join him in there too.
The twin sinks were amber glass bowls in a slab of granite. The mirror reached the ceiling.
Eve could see herself perched on the edge of that tub, sipping her coffee and watching Adam shave. She ran a hand under a gleaming faucet, and water immediately flowed. She glanced up at Adam. He seemed pleased, and she could also see relief in his expression. She wasn’t surprised; after so many disappointing viewings, this house was perfect.
“Could you see me living here?” Adam murmured.
Eve nodded.“But what about the penthouse?”
He shrugged.“I’ll keep it. I have no desire to sell it at the moment.”
Barbara slid open the patio door.“You’ll love this.” She smiled and motioned with her hand.“After you.”
Eve took one look and swallowed back a gasp. The sun had just begun to descend in the west, streaking the sky in gold and orange. The evening air ruffled Adam’s hair as he stepped out.
The patio was enormous, wraparound.
To the left, a full-size U-shaped outdoor kitchen, complete with bar seating. To the right was an enclosed area delineated by stacked natural stone, with inviting cushioned patio furniture arranged in a semicircle. Four fire bowls sat at the ready. A fifth one had been lighted, flame dancing in the light of the setting sun. There was even a sunken hot tub.
