I nod. “I doubt anyone can top it.”

Epilogue

Dani

Never would I have thought, after breaking up with Clay, that I’d be graduating from college and getting married in the same year.

Miles renewed his proposal at The Riptide, where Dr Pepper wasn’t allowed at any of the tables nearby, per my request.

We were married at a fun little place in Carlisle, and we’ve been on our honeymoon in Europe for the past week.

“Okay, so what do we need to check off for the honeymoon bucket list?” Miles asks, pulling out a blank sheet of paper. “We’ve seen Big Ben and you’ve had your fill of crepes from France. You did not meet your goal of eating your weight in them, but avoiding a trip to the hospital is always a good idea.”

I pause, retracing memories as I try to remember where he got that notion. “I said that?”

He nods and laughs. “The day I proposed our fake relationship.”

Lightbulbs go off and I smile, pulling him in for a lengthy kiss. Something I will never get tired of.

“How did you remember something like that?”

“I don’t know what kind of magical power you have, but I remember a lot of the things you say.” He grins and I still can’t believe this is my life.

I smile and say, “Well, in a couple months, you’ll need to remember to pick up your socks and clean the mirror after brushing your teeth, or whatever it is married couples fight about.”

“I think we can arrange that.” He leans forward and pulls me in for another kiss. You make it hard to get out of bed, Dani-girl.”

“Well, unlike some people in this room,” I say, giving him a pointed look, “I’ve never seen Prague. And we don’t want to keep Oliver forever.”

Nodding, Miles walks over to the bathroom and turns on the shower.

The few weeks after Miles left the family company had been stressful for both of us, but getting things finished up for the launch of the machines to hospitals in September had been worth it. Miles and Oliver had started their own company, combining the best of both worlds with their separate expertise.

Am I complaining about extending our honeymoon for business purposes in Europe? No, no I’m not.

As the public relations specialist for the new company, this is something I can get behind.

“I can’t believe I’m here,” I say, taking in the beauty of the city.

Miles nods. “Yeah, imagine what would’ve happened if I’d asked the woman from that dating app to be my fake girlfriend.” He pauses for a moment and then says, “Oh wait, I did.”

After several lengthy conversations over the course of our real engagement, we figured out that he wasn’t the creepy guy living in his parents’ basement I’d originally thought. Not that I needed the help of a matchmaking app to tell me Miles and I would work, but it definitely makes me smile.

Once we’re both dressed and ready, Miles turns to me and asks, “Should we shop at the markets first, or go see the Prague Castle?”

“We’re supposed to be meeting with Oliver.” I give him a look that is supposed to be stern, but it’s difficult when I realize all that my life has turned out to be.

“We can meet and see the sights.”

I shake my head. “Which usually means we’ll talk about business for five minutes and spend the rest of the time among the tourists.”

“That’s not a bad thing, love. Work will always be there, but we won’t always be here.”

He leans in for a kiss before we walk out of the hotel and into the Prague sunshine.

A year ago I thought I knew what I wanted my life to be. And somehow in the twists and turns, it’s heads and tails better than I could’ve imagined.
