Affirmation
Like self-care, deep breathing, or spending time in nature, an affirmation practice is a good way to ground yourself, as you move through the journalling process. Affirmations are especially powerful when they address the traumas of your inner child, helping you towards happiness and self-acceptance.
‘In every adult there lurks a child – an eternal child, something that is always becoming, is never completed, and calls for unceasing care, attention, and education’
Carl Jung
Today’s exercise
There is power in repetition, so read through the list of affirmations below and circle three that resonate especially for you. Write down why you think you are drawn to them – why they, in particular, reflect your truth.
From now on, make time regularly to repeat these to yourself – it could be every morning, it could be at a mirror, whatever works best for you. Over time, with repetition, these affirmations will embed themselves in your consciousness, helping you eliminate limiting beliefs and move towards becoming the person you want to be.
I deserve to be happy
I do not need to feel guilty
I am special and beautiful
I accept myself for who I am
I let nothing hold me back
I have moved on from my past
I forgive and I heal
I acknowledge and love my true Self
I am strong
Well I’m sure as hell ‘embracing the future’ right now. I got away. I actuallygot away.
I made it happen and K didn’t have the first clue about any of it. I did have to endure an excruciating night with Erin and her million-year-old-bless-me-Father-for-I-have-sinned aunt, but fuck it was worth it because then it was the ferry and goodbye fucking Ireland and not letting anything hold me back. I deserve to be happy yadda yadda yadda. I even went up the front and did that Titanic thing – well, not quite that because I’d have looked like a dick, but up the front all the same. And the sun was shining and there were seagulls and it was the first time I’d felt free for eight bloody years.
