Story: Making a Killing
Voice 1:Yes? What do you want?
(British, female)
Voice 2:I’m looking for Barry Mason.
(US, female)
Voice 1:He’s not here.
Voice 2:Do you know when he’ll be back?
Voice 1:What’s it to you?
Voice 2:My name’s Robin Tierney. I’m a researcher for a TV and film production company based in LA. Here’s my card.
Voice 1:What’s this got to do with Baz?
Voice 2:The company I’m working for – Dry Riser – they’re thinking of doing a program about what happened to Barry’s daughter. A true-crime show.
Voice 1:So there’d be money in it?
Voice 2:Potentially, yes, depending on what he had to say. And on what I find out.
Voice 1:What do you mean ‘find out’? Everyone knows what happened.
Voice 2:Well, it seems there have been some developments. Sharon’s going for a new appeal –
Voice 1:[laughs]
Stupid bitch has been trying that one on ever since she went inside. It doesn’tmeananything.
Voice 2:Apparently there’s new evidence. Evidence suggesting Sharon didn’t kill her.
[hesitates]
In fact, she may not even be dead.
Voice 1:You what? Say that again –
Voice 2:That’s the angle I’m investigating. Someone’s come forward – Kelsie Smith, you know her?
Voice 1:No fucking idea – so let me get this straight, you’re saying Daisy’s been aliveall this time?
Voice 2:Maybe – I don’t have any proof yet but from what this Kelsie Smith has told me –
Voice 1:The conniving little bitch. You do know she got Barry put away, don’t you?
Voice 2:It came up –
Voice 1:He put that little cow on a fucking pedestal – gave her everything she could possibly want and that’s how she paid him back – she fuckingframedhim. And now you stand there and tell me she isn’t evendead?
Voice 2:Well, like I said –
Voice 1:He was broken up – you know that? When she disappeared? He thought some pedo had her – and then the police haul him in and tell him he did it, and it’s all he can fucking do to avoid a murder charge – andthenhe finds it was her who put that disgusting filth on his phone – have you any idea what they do to kiddie fiddlers in prison?
Voice 2:Would you be prepared to be interviewed on camera? Your insights would be invaluable –
Voice 1:You bet I fucking would. For a price, obviously.
