Story: For the Gods' Sake
Reyna grumbled some retort, focusing back on stirring a teaspoon in the coffee she’d pulled together from the limited supplies I had in the cabin.
She needed a coffee the way she liked it. That suddenly became very important.
“I need to take a shower,” she said, giving me the excuse I needed to get her back to my house.
“The shower here is shit.” I carefully pulled the coffee out of her hand and dumped it down the sink, ignoring her shockedhey!and rinsing it. “Come with me.”
I pulled us right into my own bathroom, insidemy private quarters on Olympus. Reyna’s eyes lit with excitement when she realized where I’d taken her, pulling a laugh from my chest.
“You have five minutes to snoop,” I said, placing my hands on her shoulders and walking her into my bedroom. “Have fun.”
Reyna turned and placed a smacking kiss on my cheek before heading right towards my bedside table. I made myself scarce before I could fully materialize the image of her walking towards my large, four poster bed and went to the kitchen to grab her a proper coffee.
When I returned, she was inspecting my bookshelf, tucked into the corner next to sprawling windows with prime view of Olympus’s peaks and two plush chairs.
Even though nothing was actually disturbed, I could see where she’d explored.
The book and glasses on my bedside table. My desk, where there were still a few scattered files and a half empty glass of whiskey.
Reyna’s squeal cut off my observations, her eyes zeroing in on the coffee in my hand. She stole the cup from me, immediately taking a sip. A low, contented hum fell from her lips and my pants started to feel rather tight.
Even more so than they’d been since the moment I woke up with her in my arms.
She finished her cappucino in four long sips, her amber-brown eyes already looking brighter. “Okay,” she said resolutely. “I’m stealing your shower.”
She scurried towards my bathroom, covered in black marble cut with gold steaks.
Funny. She thought she could get away from me. I caught her around her waist in the doorway, earning adelighted squeal.
Then, because I was still considering this morning an extension of the previous night and was giving my sanity a temporary break, I made very good use of the large, steaming shower until the mirror was blocked by a thick layer of fog and Reyna looked about ready to fall asleep again.
As she brushed out her hair, one of my plush towels wrapped around her, I saw the responsibility trickle back into her face. “I have to work today. I imagine you do, too.”
“I do.” I always did.
Reyna nodded, setting the brush down on the counter. Then her eyes went to where I was gripping said counter hard enough that I could feel the marble start to bend to the shape of my hand.
“Adrian.”
“Yes?" I asked, doing my best to feign ignorance.
Reyna wasn’t going to let me get away with that. “I don’t regret last night.”
“Neither do I.” Fuck, I never could. “I shouldn’t have—”
Reyna's brown eyes narrowed, eclipsing some of their warmth. “If you are going to saylost control, I would advise against it.”
That shut me right up.
“Good. How about this?” Reyna stepped close to me, pressing our chests together. “Let’s not ruin this with talking about control and responsibility and all that, okay? We don’t need to talk about anything yet.”
Good, because I wasn’t sure I could verbalize what the fuck was happening to me. I lifted my hand and ran it down the perimeter of her face, gripping her jaw. “I’mstill going to help you with your father.”
She still needed to benefit from this somehow. Ineededto make her life better. To help her achieve her goals.
Reyna nodded, like it wasn’t even a second thought. “And I’m still helping you with your reputation. Nothing’s changed.”
Everything had changed. Shit, it had been changing since the moment I’d met her. But instead, I said, “Come over for dinner.”
