Story: Duncan

When Caity nodded, her eyes teared. I couldn’t imagine what carrying that burden could have been like.

“I didn’t know until a few weeks ago. None of us had any idea until Nolan told us.”

Caity gasped, and her hands covered her mouth.

“He knew,” Maddie whispered.

She faced her mother. “This is your fault! I lost everything because of you!”

“Maddie, please let me explain.”

“No. I don’t want to talk to you. I don’t even want to look at you!” Maddie ran upstairs, and I stood frozen, not knowing what to do. Lucille hadn’t told me it would be like this.

Her and I were going to have a come-to-Jesus moment about leaving out important information.

Caity didn’t move. She stood cemented to her spot as Maddie disappeared. Tears streamed down her face.

“Caity.”

She turned a glare at Cian and spat, “Fuck you!” before she turned and stormed out, slamming the door behind her.

“We’re having a baby!” Duncan declared, and I groaned at his timing.
