“You’re crazy,” the stranger huffed, wrapping both hands around his throat.
“Get the fuck out of here,” I snapped. “Now.”
Thankfully, the asshole did as he was told, stumbling from the corridor with his hands still pressed around his throat.
“What the hell was that about?” she demanded.
I turned, backing her against the wall. “I thought I made myself clear, Christine, but in case I didn’t, allow me to say it again. You are mine. Anyone who touches you will die.”
CHAPTER 25
Christine
Who the hell did this man think he was?
I had the answer. And I doubted he’d like to hear what that was.
My God. My child didn’t throw tantrums the way Kruz had.
I sat in the passenger seat, keeping my head turned so I could stare out the window. I knew he was antsy, perturbed I was ignoring him, but I just didn’t care.
What bothered me almost as much as the way he was acting were the continued thoughts and sensations plaguing my system. The close proximity was kicking my tail.
His scent alone was enough to drive a woman nuts.
Nope. I wasn’t going to crawl my hand across the seat to his thigh. I refused to grope the thick bulge keeping my attention while he was driving.
And there was no way I would nuzzle next to him, whispering filthy nothings into his ear. None.
The light butterflies in my stomach remained even as I turned my head, pretending I was mesmerized by something in the flash of scenery. The man also drove like a bat out of hell.
His sudden growl forced me to bite my lower lip to keep from laughing.
“You’re going to keep up the silent treatment all night?” he asked as he took a turn much too sharply, the tires squealing in response.
“When you act like a child, I’ll treat you like one. Unless you want me to tell you exactly what I think of your behavior.”
“How was that childish? I was protecting you.”
“From what, a nice man ensuring I wasn’t hurt when I nearly knocked him to the floor? Right. I can’t wait to see what you do with poor DoorDash drivers who bring food two seconds late.”
When he huffed, I stole a glance in his direction. His jaw was clenched so tightly I wasn’t certain he was breathing very well. At least I’d learned he hated the silent treatment. That might come in handy as we developed our… relationship. I closed my eyes, knocking my head back against the seat several times. I’d signed on the dotted line, agreeing to this. Marrying a man who was more possessive than any hero in any movie I’d ever seen.
Good for me.
“You don’t seem to understand or accept there are people who would stop at nothing to get to me through you.”
“You’ve made that perfectly clear.”
“Have I?”
I was cognizant he threw his head in my direction. “Trust me.”
“Well, why don’t I make it even clearer?”
“Why? Do you just want to ruin the entire night? You made fools of both of us.”
“I did no such thing.”
