Story: Cost of Courting
Selene hums and then turns back to adjust the lava lamp that’s casting green and blue light on the room.
She’s managed to drag a mattress down here and so many pillows and blankets. It’s almost claustrophobic.
I love it.
She sighs and looks around happily.
I glance back at Mael. His mother protected our omega. We owe that lady a visit.
But not now. Right now, we need to focus on this moment.
And this omega.
It’s a moment I’ve been dreaming about forever.
We’ve all waited for too long.
But now we’re here.
Finally.
Chapter thirty-nine
Selene
I fuss with theblankets, aware of them, only them. I don’t even know what I’m doing. With a shudder, I chew on my bottom lip, trying to find the confidence I normally own. I’m so focused on the slow stalk as my alphas move into the room that I don’t have the brainpower for anything else.
The heat is an inferno inside me. I've pushed it back as long as I can, fought it for years. There have been times I deliberately did things to stress my body out so that the edge of the heat would subside.
It’s here now.
I can’t deny it.
But…
My shoulders shake, and Kingston is there at once, wrapping his arms around me.
“Crazy girl, you don’t need to be strong. You don’t have to hide from us. We’ll help you through everything.”
I twist and wrap my arms around him. “I don’t want it now.”
“I know. I know. It’s not fair.”
I bury my face against his chest, hiding my tears from them.
“My sisters gone. Dot’s…gone, and I don’t want to do this now.”
“I know, and if I could change it for you, I would.”
I stay there, ignoring the building heat, fighting it while I let the emotions ride through me, but nothing can escape the heat forever, not even an omega who likes to think she’s an alpha. My designation will notbe denied.
I mouth his skin, tasting the salt and burning paper scent that is uniquely his.
The way his hands move softly over my shoulders in a repeated figure eight is comforting, but it’s shifting now, and it’s got my skin tingling, and, with every pass, I hold my breath, hoping he’s going to keep going down.
The anticipation brings my temper and arousal to the forefront, pushing out thoughts of anything and everything else.
His fingers lighten, almost dancing across my skin. I dig my fingers into his shoulders and lift my head. His lips find mine instantly. I open, and his tongue pushes into my mouth, dipping, tasting, sending me into a drunken stupor where all I can do is cling to him and kiss him back.
