Story: Accidentally Yours
“No!” I grabbed my phone from her. “My uncle called me, and the board is asking for an emergency board meeting first thing Monday morning. I have to get back to New York.”
“What about the annulment?” she asked.
“We’ll have to fly back on Tuesday. Or you can stay here until then. I’ll pay for your room for the extra two nights.”
“But my cousins and I are leaving tomorrow.”
“Then we’ll have to fly back on Tuesday. I have to be at that board meeting.”
“Okay. Just let me know what works for you,” she said, picking up her phone.
I sat there and stared at how unfazed she was by all of this. It made no sense to me whatsoever.
“Um, I have to go and talk to my cousins,” she said. “Matt just saw the video.”
“Great.” I sighed. “I’m sure everyone in the damn world has seen it by now. I’m so fucked. I can’t believe this.”
“No, you’re not. We’ll get it straightened out,” she said.
“What don’t you understand, Willa? I am on the verge of losing my company.”
“I’m sure you’re exaggerating, Damien.”
“No, I’m not! You know what? Go. I don’t even want to see you right now.”
“Fine. I’m leaving.” She grabbed her bag and stormed off.
ChapterEight
Willa
I knocked on the door of Matt’s suite.
“Oh gee. You look like death,” I said, stepping inside.
“Care to explain what the hell happened last night?” Matt said, walking to the bed and climbing in next to James.
“I would love to explain, but I can’t because I have zero memory of anything. All I know is we woke up this morning and discovered we were married.”
“Do you know who that guy is?” James asked.
“Yeah. His name is Damien Blackwood.”
“He’s a billionaire, Willa. You married a billionaire!” Matt said.
“I know that now. But when we met yesterday, he told me he sold private insurance. Listen, we’re getting the marriage annulled as soon as possible. It was a mistake, an accident.”
“Neither one of you remembers a thing?” James asked. “He doesn’t remember?”
“Nope.” I shook my head. “Our minds are nothing but black holes from last night.”
“It sounds to me that someone drugged you. Could he have?” Matt asked.
“God, no. Damien is freaking the fuck out over this. He keeps ranting about how he’s going to lose his company now.” I waved my hand in the air. “But we did meet some guy at the bar yesterday. We got to talking for a while, and then he bought us a round of drinks.”
“Were you there when the bartender poured the drinks?” James asked.
“No. We were sitting at a table. The man went and got them for us.”
“What about the annulment?” she asked.
