Story: A Rogue Cowboy Finds Love
Ivan looked frantically at Jacob, and then at his brothers, who were all sporting the biggest shit-eating grins.
Finally, Ivan shook his head. "You wouldn't. I'm your old man."
"Nope. You're just an asshole."
At that moment, two big black SUVs rolled down the driveway. Dylan's security team from his detective business. Jacob grinned as four huge, heavily armed men in suits got out of the trucks. Jacob pointed at Ivan. "This is the guy. Escort him out and follow him closely until the shadow team arrives. Once they're there, you can pull out."
His brothers started laughing again, because they knew there was no shadow team, but Ivan looked sick. "You bastard," he snapped.
"Who did you sell Sienna to?"
"Fuck you."
Jacob nodded at the security team, and they all pulled their guns out and pointed them at Ivan. His brothers grinned, then they all did the same, so that there were seven guns pointed at Ivan.
It was a lot.
Not really Jacob's style.
But it also felt damned good, and he had a sister to protect. "I want a name."
Ivan lifted his jaw, and sweat beaded down his temple. "Big Billy."
Big Billy. The name wasn't familiar. But it still made chills run down Jacob's spine. "Full name."
Ivan paused for a moment, and Jacob could tell he was trying to remember, not stalling. Finally Ivan said, "Billy Sampson. Only met him a couple times. Don't know if that was his real name or not."
"Tell me everything you remember about him."
"I don't know. He brokered a couple shipments for me. A middleman. Never heard from him again after I sold Sienna to him."
Jacob ground his jaw. "Did he deal in women? Did he traffic women?" The thought made him sick, but he had to know what his sister had faced, where she might have gone.
"All I saw was drugs."
"Why did he want her?"
More sweat was pouring down Ivan's face. "I don't know. He didn't say. What did I care? Didn't matter."
Jacob stared at the man who had once ruled his life. "It did matter, and it does now. Sienna matters. I matter. You are nothing. Remember that. And remember that I have all the control now."
Ivan lifted his jaw. "Oh, yeah? If you want me tortured, then why you going to let me go?"
Jacob smiled. "Because I want you scared and looking over your shoulder every single minute of every day for the rest of your life, just like the two kids you were supposed to keep safe."
Jacob took a breath, but realized he had nothing else to say. He was done. Done with this man who had haunted him for so long. He looked around at his brothers, who were all standing there, guns out, having his back. "I love you guys."
They all grinned. "Back at ya, Jacob."
Satisfaction settled deep in Jacob, a freedom he'd been seeking his whole life, a freedom from his past. He looked down at the old man who had been so scary for so long. Now? He was just a powerless old man. "That's all. Leave."
Then Jacob turned away and walked back around the house. He knew the security team would make sure Ivan and his pals got off the property. Jacob also knew he'd laid out a significant enough threat that Ivan would never come after him or his family again. Jacob was safe, and he hadn't had to stoop to the level of his dad and hurt anyone.
He'd won, and it felt incredible.
Jacob didn't look back as he walked away. He wasn't even tempted.
He simply let him go.
