Page 40 of Wyatt (The Black Roses MC #5)

I turn toward Wyatt, and he wraps me in his arms as tears trail down my face. “I’m so scared, Wyatt. Some monster has my son, and we don’t know who or where. Oh, God. What if they…” I can't bring myself to voice the fear that I may never see my child again.

“Baby, I promise you I will do whatever it takes to bring that boy home to you safe and sound. No one will be safe from me until he’s home.”

A hand is pressed against my back, and I turn my head to see Lucy standing behind me. “We’ll get him and Cece back,” she reassures me.

“Oh God, Lucy. Your sister—”

“Is going to be fine. She didn’t survive the hell we grew up in to have it all fall apart now.”

I nod, and she looks at Wyatt. “I’ll meet you guys out there,” she says, nodding toward the doorway.

“We’re going to walk out of this room and figure out a plan. All the brothers are here to do whatever needs to be done to get Colby and Cece back where they belong. And make no mistake—they will be coming home, baby.”

It’s everything I can do to take a deep breath and let those words in as truth. They have to be. I won’t survive any other possibility.

Just as we’re about to walk out of the small room, my phone dings with a text.

Nolan: Change of plans. We want a meet with the Black Roses. Make it happen if you want Colby and Cece back. I’ll be in touch.

“Motherfucker!” I yell, throwing my phone on the bed and grabbing my hair at the roots. My eyes squeeze shut as a feral scream pours out of me. “I’m going to fucking kill him.” I have never meant anything more in my life. He’s a dead man walking.

“What is it?” Wyatt asks, grabbing my arms with a look of confusion and fear swirling in his eyes.

I point to the phone, and he picks it up, his eyes blazing with fury as he reads the text from Nolan.

“Let’s go,” he says, grabbing my hand and rushing out of the room.

We head through the hallway, and every eye in the room is on us when we enter the main area of the clubhouse..

“It’s Nolan Dawson. He has Colby and Cece,” Wyatt announces.

Cash stands from the table he’s at and throws a beer bottle against the wall, the glass shattering in an explosion. “What the fuck?”

Jude is staring at Wyatt as though he’s ready to burst out of his skin. “What do you know?”

“Someone broke into the house and cut the power,” I say. “There was no sign of Cece or Colby, but Pepper was hurt really badly. I think he bit the hell out of whoever was there because he had blood all over his face.”

“Braxton,” Ozzy says in a voice I’ve never heard him use, but if I had to guess, it’s the do not question me and follow my orders voice he uses in situations like these.

“You and Linc go check any pharmacy or drugstore within a twenty-mile radius. Ask questions and see if there’re any signs of the Bone Breakers.

Maybe whoever got bitten needed medical supplies.

I want to know how many of them we’re dealing with, and it might give us a clue as to where they are. ”

“He wants to meet. Nolan. He texted Maizie and said he wants a meeting with us or we’ll never see Cece or Colby again,” Wyatt says.

“Where?” Ozzy asks.

“I don’t know. He didn’t tell me. Said he’ll be in touch,” I reply.

My phone buzzes again, and I lift it to see another text from Nolan.

When I open the photo he sent me, my blood runs cold.

It’s a picture of Colby and Cece. She has a gash over her eyebrow and a bruising eye. Her arms are wrapped protectively around Colby, but I see his little face. Tear marks are tracked down his cheeks, but he’s staring into the camera with a look of pure defiance.

“Oh God,” I cry, nearly dropping the phone.

Wyatt grabs it from my hand, pulling me tightly to him so I don’t collapse.

He looks at the picture, and I can tell it’s taking every ounce of willpower not to throw the phone across the room.

“He’s dead,” Wyatt says as Ozzy comes and takes the phone.

Ozzy grabs Wyatt by the shoulder and squeezes. “No doubt about that, brother. We just need to find him first.”

“Please, Ozzy. He has Colby. I know you want him dead. And believe me when I say I want the same thing. But please make sure my baby is safe before you go in guns blazing. If he gets caught in the cross fire…”

“There is no reality where me or any of the guys would let that happen, Maizie. Colby will be safe and in your arms by morning. Trust me on that,” Ozzy assures me.

“I’m going. Wherever those fuckers want to meet, I’ll be there,” Jude says, tightening his hold around Lucy before kissing the top of her head. “We’ll get them back, love.”

“Me too,” Cash says. He sat back down after his outburst, and now his legs are spread in front of him with his hands clasped between his knees. “They have Cece and Colby. I’ll make sure they’re safe first, but those assholes don’t live through the night.”

Ozzy nods and studies the picture on my phone. “They have to be somewhere local. Or at least fairly close. Do you have any idea how long Colby and Cece have been missing?”

“I talked to Colby about two hours ago. He wanted to tell me good night. I told him he needed to stop conning Cece into letting him stay up late, and he laughed.” My voice is shaky and it cracks at the end, remembering Colby’s boyish laughter.

“Okay, so they were home two hours ago. That means we’re looking for somewhere that takes less than that to get to. I just wish I knew if they were in a house or a hotel. But they’re close. That’s good.”

Barrett walks over to Ozzy and looks at the picture, his eyes squinting as he takes the phone from his hand.

“I know where they are.” He points to the wall that they’re leaning against. “I recognize the wallpaper and that god-awful carpeting. It’s a little motel just off the highway, a bit off the beaten path. ”

I don’t ask how he knows, but I could kiss him right now for the fact that he recognizes the small amount of the room that’s in the picture.

“Alright, boys.” Ozzy looks at Knox. “Call your brother and have him come back. We’re going to load up and go get your kid back,” he promises when he finds my gaze.

Wyatt is still hanging on to me, his body tight with simmering rage. I turn into him fully and wrap my arms around his waist.

“I’ll make sure he’s safe, baby. Our boy will be home soon.”
