Wrath

Inever thought they”d make a play like this and attack our home. The fact that the fucking Police Chief was one of the attackers just baffles me. How was he expecting to get away with this? I don”t have time to think about that. The group that has Claire has no idea what”s happened here and that they can”t bring her here.

Dialing Shadow I wait for him to answer.

“We”re on the way back with her now. We’re about thirty minutes out.” Shadow informs me as soon as he answers my call.

“You can”t bring her here; we were attacked while you were gone. Take her to The Workroom.”

“What do you mean we were attacked? Is everyone okay?” He asks worriedly

“A group of fifteen men attacked, led by the goddamn Police Chief. We’re going to have to involve the law, hence why you can’t bring her back here. Pete took a shot to the shoulder; I”m not sure about anyone else.”

“Keep me updated on what”s happening; we”ll take her to The Workroom and wait.”

“Thank you. Hopefully, this won”t take long. I want answers from that bitch.”

Hanging up, I look at Flame.

“That”s her handled; now the police. Who the fuck do we contact about the shitshow out there?”I ask while pointing at the door.

“The detective we helped before, with the string of nightclub attacks, seemed like a decent guy; can we contact him?”Flame asks me, looking thoughtful.

“Detective Stevens. Yeah, he was decent and didn”t fucking judge us for being bikers,”I respond, grabbing my phone and scrolling through my contacts.

Aha, there”s Detective Stevens” contact saved on my phone.

Quickly clicking on his number, I wait to see if he answers. I hope this is the right choice.

“Hello, Detective Stevens speaking, how may I help you?”

“Hello Detective, it”s Wrath, President of Devil”s Inferno MC. I”m wondering if you could help with a problem we”ve had this afternoon.”

“Ah, Wrath, it”s been a while; what”s the problem?”

“We were attacked at The Compound; fifteen armed men stormed our home. The problem we have is that one of the men is your Police Chief and he certainly wasn”t here on official business.”

“Fuck, I”m on my way; just between us, he”s a dirty fucker. We”ve been trying to prove it for a while now. It looks like you may have just handed us what we needed. I should be there in about ten minutes. Do you need emergency services as well?”

“It might be best to send some; I”m currently unsure of how many are dead or injured out there. I do know for a fact that the Police Chief is alive but wounded, and I have at least one wounded man.”

“Okay, I”ll dispatch units; we should all arrive at the same time. See you shortly.”

Hanging up, I take a seat next to Tech and just take a minute to gather my thoughts. So much has happened in such a short period.

“Okay, Detective Stevens is on his way; let”s get out there and see what the damage is.”

I stand, making my way to check on everyone. God, I never thought something like this would happen to us in our own home since we”ve been legit since I was young. Being attacked like this is something my Dad always worried about and was one of the main reasons he wanted to go legit.

Walking into The Common Room, I notice four bodies. The dead shooters, but they aren”t my concern right now. We were well within our rights to kill them, and I”m sure Detective Stevens will agree with me there. Rock”s standing next to the Police Chief, who’s tied up. It looks like someone did a quick patch-up job on him; he has bandages over both shoulders.

Looking around, I see Joker standing over Whiskey, helping bandage his left arm; Wreck”s standing, talking to my Dad and Cam, who all look unharmed, thankfully. What catches my eye is Flash; he”s kneeling over a body that”s prone on the floor.

Rushing towards him, I see he”s got a cloth held to someone”s stomach. Flash”s body”s blocking the face of whoever he”s trying to help. As I reach them, I get a look at who he”s trying to save and realize it”s Jake.

“Prez, he needs help. The bleeding isn”t slowing at all.”He tells me, sounding worried.

“WHERE”S DOC?!”I shout as loud as I can into the room.

He’s the only one here who”s even remotely capable of saving the Prospect at my feet.

“I”m here, Prez; I had to go and get my kit from the infirmary.”He explains as he rushes across the room towards us.

Dropping down next to us, he starts examining Jake.

“Flash, I”m going to need you to move the cloth so I can see what I”m working with,”Doc tells him gently.

“It”s a gut shot. He stepped in front of a bullet meant for me. I didn”t see it coming until it was too late. You gotta save him, Doc.”

Poor Flash has tears running down his face, begging Doc to save Jake. What Jake did has obviously affected him.

“I’ll do my best; now move out of the way with Prez, please Flash.”He gently instructs.

Grabbing Flash’s shoulder, I squeeze it as he comes to stand next to me.

“He’ll be okay,”I tell Flash.

God, I hope I”m right.

As Doc’s working on stabilizing Jake, I hear the sirens grow close. It looks like the police have arrived, and hopefully with the help Jake needs too. There’s only so much Doc can do here, and I think Jake”s going to need more help than Doc can provide. He’s lost a hell of a lot of blood. The floor around him is covered in it, as are Flash”s arms, hands, and clothing.

“Wrath!”I hear Detective Stevens call my name from near the front entrance.

“Back here, bring a medic with you!”I shout back, hearing footsteps running towards me.

The medic drops himself down by Doc, and they start talking in hushed tones. I focus on the detective, who”s just stopped next to me. There’s nothing I can do for Jake; that”s in the hands of the medics and Doc.

“Want to give me the full story Wrath?”He asks, looking eager to hear everything.

”Sure, as I”m sure you can see, there was a shootout. The Police Chief and his men attacked us in our home, and we legally defended ourselves against them. My men and I all have a license to carry, so when they entered shooting, we returned fire. You should also be aware that this isn”t the first attempt the Police Chief has made on some of our lives.”I explain keeping my voice detached.

“What do you mean?”He asks intrigued.

“On my wedding day, me and my husband were run off the road and taken to the Police Chief”s home. Our men came and got us out with zero bloodshed. At the time, they didn”t know who they could trust within law enforcement. I”m sure you can understand them taking the actions they did at the time.”

“Yes, I can. Have you got any proof? And congratulations on getting married.”

“Thank you, and Flame’s hospital report from after we were rescued. He almost died.”I say angrily.

We also have Tech”s records, but there”s no way I”m telling the detective about them. What Tech did isn”t exactly legal.

“That”s fine. We have enough to take him in right now, but we are going to need all of your official statements as soon as possible.”

Out of the corner of my eye, I see Jake being wheeled out, with Flash following closely behind.

”Tomorrow, soon enough? I”d like to check on our guy that they”ve just taken out of here on a stretcher, and I want to spend some time with my husband and son.”

“Son? I didn”t realize you had a son.”He genuinely looks shocked.

“Oh yeah, I do. He was a welcome surprise recently.”I say with a small smile.

“Cam, come here!”I shout.

From behind the detective, I can see my son running towards us.

“Yeah, Dad.”He says as he stops next to the detective.

Stevens” face is hilarious as he looks over to where the voice has just come from and gets his first look at my son.

“Oh, dear lord! He’s your fucking miniature!”Detective Stevens exclaims.

Bursting out laughing I nod my head because, yeah, there is really no denying that he”s mine.

“So yeah, I want to do all that if that”s okay. You should also be aware that Cam was here and present during the shooting.”

The detective”s eyes go hard. “Yes, that’s good to know. I”ll see you all tomorrow morning. I”ll come back here to take all your statements. Save everyone from trying to fit into the station. I”m not quite sure we could fit you all in the building.” He says with a small laugh as he turns and leaves, waving his team after him. I notice as they leave that they”ve taken photos and collected the bodies of the shooters. Now that was quick and efficient.

Looking around the room, I take in how lucky we are. This could have been so much worse if we hadn”t had a warning that we were about to be attacked. God, I don”t even want to think about what could have happened.

“Medics took Pete too; he was shot in the shoulder, but the bullet was still inside, so he”s going to need surgery to remove it.”Piston informs me as he walks over to where I”m standing.

“Were Pete and Jake the main injuries? Everyone else had flesh wounds.”I ask just to be sure.

“Yeah, me and Rock are going to go to the hospital to wait to hear any news about the Prospects.”He tells me.

I just nod. It”s one less thing for me to worry about right now.

I see those who weren”t injured in any way cleaning up and making sure anything that can”t be saved is put to one side. God, I love my guys; I don”t need to tell them what needs to be done. They just take action. Flame comes and stands next to me, grabbing my hand and squeezing.

“Let’s get Cam and go home. The guys are okay here, and we need to focus on Cam right now. He may seem okay, but we both know that once the adrenaline wears off, that might not be the case.”

“Yeah, I agree. Let”s go home.”I smile at him.

I”m so relieved he”s okay. I was so worried when I was stuck in the cave with Tech and my injured fucking husband was out here defending our people and home. At least I don”t need to worry about anything else happening; we have Claire, and Detective Stevens has her Police Chief Uncle.
