Wraith watched Caroline shine with pride and glowered at the men who attempted to get her attention. He was sitting right here. Wraith wasn’t used to people missing his presence. Thank goodness they backed down quickly when he sent a targeted glance their direction. Lucien would take him off the door if he bashed too many skulls together.

“Everyone’s looking at me differently, Daddy,” Caroline hissed when there was a break in the customers arriving.

“You’re sparkling, Little girl. I’ll take credit for that,” Wraith told her with a wink.

“I’m trying to appear normal.”

“Precious, you couldn’t be normal if you tried. You’re a bad-biker-loving romance author. Those are always the wild ones.”

“Wraith!” she protested before admitting, “I do love my Devil Daddy.”

He rewarded her with a hard kiss. A woman had a crack at skirting past him while he was distracted. Wraith put out a powerful arm to block her path and finished kissing his Little girl.

Scythe appeared to screen the guests. “ID.”

When Wraith turned back to the woman, Caroline gripped his thigh enticingly. He sent a stern message to his cock to wait until later before addressing the customer, “Not cool.”

Scythe scanned the ID she had given him. Without a word, Scythe handed it to Wraith. It did not reflect the current image of the heavily made-up woman, wearing a strappy dress that revealed hints of silky skin. He recognized the person in the picture. He’d turned away the woman who wore knee-length, full skirts with an old-fashioned cardigan a couple of times at least. Those uptight clients didn’t fit in well with the usual Inferno clientele and usually created problems.

He met the woman’s gaze and read hopelessness in her eyes. Another strike against her. Desperation and alcohol didn’t mix successfully. He opened his mouth to refuse her, but Caroline’s fingers dug into his thigh. When he met her gaze, his Little girl nodded.

Magnanimously, Wraith handed her ID back and said, “Welcome to Inferno. Don’t cause trouble.”

“No, sir. Thank you.” The woman disappeared quickly into the crowd.

“What the fuck, Wraith?” Scythe asked.

“She needed to be here,” Caroline said quickly.

Wraith waved his hand Caroline’s way, endorsing her statement.

Scythe stalked off, shaking his head. Wraith would keep an eye on her. Was he wrong or did Scythe react strongly to the woman? Caroline jumped off her stool and boogied to the music as her favorite song came on, erasing any concern from Wraith’s mind.

Scythe would handle her.
