A Little Girl Talk

I needed some variation in my routine. After breakfast I decided to walk around the property. My only exercise typically came from running to emergencies at the hospital. Since that wasn’t part of my routine for now, I needed to find something to keep my body moving. I couldn’t continue to stay in the house eating and sitting around all day with no movement. After an hour outside, I went back into the house to shower and get dressed for the day.

When I came out of the shower, I was shocked to see Wolf sitting on my bed. With just my towel wrapped around me, I initially tried to cover myself up. I realized how silly I looked since the man had seen me naked, so I decided to continue to put my clothes on.

“Wolf, is everything okay?”

“I’m about to head out with Gavin to handle some business. I didn’t want to leave you alone, so we have two members of his security team waiting to meet you. Their job is to keep you safe while I’m out,” he explained.

I was taken aback. I didn’t expect him to leave me here alone at any point. He never told me the details of the conversation from the other day concerning Abel. I wondered if his sudden departure had anything to do with that. Initially I didn’t pay attention to his attire but now that I was dressed, I did. He had on all black which wasn’t out of the norm. It was the bullet proof vest that peeked through the top of his t-shirt. Along with the holster that held a gun on his left and right side. Then I noticed his sling was gone. If wherever he was headed warranted all of this protection, I was concerned for him.

“Don’t look at me like that. I will be back, I promise. There is nothing to worry about. You will be perfectly safe here,” he assured me.

“Will you be safe? Your arm isn’t healed, and you took your sling off. I doubt you would be able to shoot a gun,” I expressed.

“Come here, Lexxy,” he said as he patted the spot next to him on the bed. With hesitation, I walked over to him and sat beside him.

“Take a deep breath for me. I will be fine, and so will you. For now, I need you to relax and watch some television or read a book. The same thing you would be doing if I was here with you. Can you do that for me?”

I took a deep breath like he instructed me to. When I felt the feeling of worry that had built up subside, I answered him. “Yes, I can do that, but I don’t have to like it. In fact, I don’t like any of this, Wolf.”

“I know, baby. You gotta let me handle it so we can go back to our normal lives,” he said as he kissed my forehead. Wolf grabbed my hand and led me downstairs to meet the dudes from Gavin’s security team. Two burly dudes took up more space in the living room than I was accustomed to. Once we were all standing together, the introductions began.

“Alexis, this is Dobbs, and this is Curry. They are going to look out for you today,” Gavin explained.

Dobbs and Curry both nodded in my direction as they were introduced. My hand gripped Wolf’s hand tighter. I felt nervous. “Nice to meet you both,” I managed to get out.

“Don’t forget what I said, Lexxy. If you need me, I’m a call away,” Wolf said before he kissed my lips. He started to walk away, but I pulled him in for a hug. I took my time inhaling his scent. Until he returned, I would continue to worry about him

“I gotta go, baby,” he whispered softly in my ear. He broke our hug then walked out of the door with Gavin.

I was alone with two strangers. What started out as a good day had turned to shit that fast. I didn’t say a word to Dobbs or Curry. I just went back upstairs to my room. I was certain Wolf had already given them orders, so there wasn’t anything they needed to discuss with me. I was nervous and worried about Wolf, but as usual he was calm and cool.

On top of that I had no idea if Abel was going to be with him or not.

I had already spoken to Abel today, so I didn’t want to call him to ask. He asked me how I was and every day I told him I was fine. If I called him randomly, he would think something was up. The thought of them both in a potentially dangerous predicament had me on the verge of tears.

I needed to talk to someone, and Joy was the first person that came to mind. As I grabbed my phone from the end table next to the bed, I tried not to freak out as I found her contact. I selected her number then pressed the call button. The phone rang twice before she answered.

“I must be really special to get a phone call,” Joy joked.

“Hey, cuz, how are you?” I asked.

“I’m good, but you sound like shit. What’s going on over there? Do you need me to come kick Wolf’s ass?” she asked.

I couldn’t help but laugh. Joy meant her empty threat, which was what caused me to laugh. There would never be a day where she could kick Wolf’s ass, but I appreciated her offer.

“I needed that laugh you don’t even know it. I’m in my feelings because Wolf left the house in all black dressed like he was headed into combat.”

“Oh, it sounds like you took my advice huh, cousin. You fucked that man, and now you are in your feelings.”

“You think you know me so well. Not only did I sleep with him, but he asked me to be with him and I agreed. So, we are officially a couple. It’s been great spending time with Wolf. Everything was fine until he told me he was going out.”

“Aww, cousin. I’m happy for you. Don’t worry about Wolf. You know he can hold his own. That sling on his arm isn’t holding anything back for him except tattooing.”

I heard what she said, and in my heart I knew that it was true. If this had been before I saw him shot, I probably wouldn’t be so concerned. Being with him, I was able to forget that memory of him being wheeled into the hospital. I could only pray he would come back in one piece.

“Girl, did you hear what I said?” Joy asked.

“No, sorry. I was in my head.”

“Listen, I know you are worried about Wolf, but be patient with him. And be patient with yourself too. This is new for both of you. I’m sure Wolf is used to living his life without having to answer anyone. He has you now, but he still wants to shield you from things. You guys integrating into each other’s lives will take some adjusting,” Joy explained.

“You’re right. It will take some adjusting. I’m not used to being in someone’s space but I’m here. I guess I would have appreciated if he didn’t just spring it on me.” I sighed.

“Alright, girl, enough of the pity party. Are you caught up on our show?”

“I have a couple of episodes left. Wolf even started to watch it with me. I’m still on the honeymoon episodes though.”

“Why don’t you go watch it while Wolf is out? Once you catch up call me back so we can talk about it. You know how much I love this show,” Joy mentioned.

“Yes, I know. Let me go do that and I will check in with you later,” I said.

We said our goodbyes as I made my way to the living room to go watch my guilty pleasure. It wouldn’t do me any good to sit here worrying all day about Wolf. I had to have faith that he would be okay and come back to me.
