PEOPLE, PLACES, AND THINGS

Aglye (AG-lie) : One of two mainland kingdoms; led by King Hawk.

Brin : Laena’s shimmerling companion. (See also: shimmerlings .)

Callum Farrow : Famed magic hunter from Aglye. Formerly the Captain of the King’s Guard.

Declan Riennad : Regent of Etra; assists in running the country until the queen comes of age.

Etra (EH-trah) : A small island nation that takes pride in its long line of queens.

Hawk : King of Aglye.

Heart-tithe : A brand of magic requiring the pain of a loved one to access remnants of the mages’ power.

Inasvale : A city in Aglye where the poisonkeepers’ monastery is located. (See also: poisonkeepers )

Katrina Montrose-Aboret : Sister to Laena and heir to the throne of Etra following Laena’s abdication.

Laena Felicia Montrose-Aboret : Former heir to the throne, she abdicated five years ago, supposedly because she loved a commoner. In truth, she left out of fear of her forbidden magical abilities.

Landon Moore : Newly promoted to Aglyean general.

Mages : Banished to the Miragelands after years of controlling humans in the Vales.

Magnus : the late King of Aglye; Hawk’s father.

Miragelands : The home world of the mages. After ruling over the people of the Vales for hundreds of years, the corrupt mages were banished back to their native world, known as the Miragelands.

Poisonkeepers : An order of monks charged with guarding the passage between the Vales and the Miragelands.

Riles (rih-LESS) : The capital city of Etra.

Shimmerlings : Rare, newt-like creatures with magical properties. Legends say their bones were used to were used to control humans during the time of the mages — and that they helped liberate the realms.

Silerith (sih-LER-ehth) : The secretive country that shares the mainland with Aglye. Known to be lenient toward magic users, they are ruled by an elusive king; most refer to him as the Ruthless King.

Sunflower Cottage : Laena’s home after abdicating the throne.

Thaddeus : King Hawk’s younger brother and a prince of Aglye, he took orders as a poisonkeeper and lives at the monastery in Inasvale. (See also: poisonkeeper, Inasvale.)

The Vales : Common terminology for the combined realms of Aglye, Etra, and Silerith.

Vunmore : The capital city of Aglye.
