Page 1 of Wilder Puck
Prologue
I’m a good guy.
Kind and generous.
Ask anyone and they’ll say I’m the nicest, sweetest man. No sarcasm.
A questionable 8 out of 10, but my personality makes me an easy 10.
It could be the abs.
I learned that to get people to like you, you just say yes.
Wilder, I need your help studying. Yeah, for sure.
Wilder, take us out to the bar. Let’s go!
Wilder, be my boyfriend. I need to marry someone like you. Why the hell not? Yes!
People pleasing might be similar to taking it up the ass. Okay, I’ve never tried the latter before. But I wish I could explain how exhausting it is to be ayesman.
I can’t complain in a variety of different ways though. I have a career in the NHL. My dad’s the Coach, so you can imagine how many people think he’s the only reason I’m inthe game. But I’m one of the best goalies around. Thanks for that dad. I’ve been saying yes to him since the second I was born. That has led me to play hockey all my life. I graduated from a good college. Ivy League if you must know. I have a hot girlfriend. I have a few best friends. My sister is one of them.
Life is good.
It’s amazing.
So, when the hot girl dumps me because I crossed some boundary with my best friend, I can’t believe it. Is sipping my best friend’s coffee and eating half of her donut crossing a boundary? I’ve been doing it for almost five years, and this is our routine.
Plus, Baddie Addie is not someone she has to worry about. Yes, she knows me better than anyone. Yes, sometimes better than my sister – it cuts close. But she’s my best friend. That’s it. I swear.
So, on the night, we lose a huge game against our archenemy, the Saints. The sore loser in me comes out, and then my girl dumps me after the losing game.
Best text ever.
I went home because I needed a break from all of it.
This is when things get interesting because Baddie knows me, again, better than anyone. So, she’s already at my place.
I know what you’re thinking.
This is where the juice gets made. We are two oranges, squeezing the hell out of each other out of thirst. We need to be quenched. But no, I’m sorry to say. That’s not how this story goes.
I’m a yes man, but I would never truly purposely overstep a boundary with Baddie Addie. She does have a boyfriend.
Yet here she is with two turmeric lattes that have hockey stick art just for me. She’s wearing her favorite satin pajamas. I don’t have the guts to tell her she missed a button at her breastsbecause I shouldn’t be looking at her and wondering what she’s got underneath all of that.
No juicing here.
Instead, I tell her the truth about why my girlfriend left me. It turns out her boyfriend left her for almost the same reason.
And Addison’s reaction is only the beginning of our story.
We break all our rules because neither one of us can stop sayingyes.
And then this thing gets way out of hand. And well, I might just lose my best friend in the end.
