CHAPTER SIX
POSEY
Dakota and Bullet leave, although she drags her feet and makes me promise that I will stay here and wait for her to come back from her honeymoon. I make that promise and hope like hell I can keep it.
But when they’re gone, that’s when Ivy turns toward me, his eyes finding mine and holding my gaze for a moment. He doesn’t say anything immediately. Sucking in a breath, I watch him, waiting for him to continue.
Maybe I’m waiting for him to pick me up and carry me away.
Yeah, that’s it.
I want it.
“Ivy,” I rasp.
He sinks his teeth into his bottom lip, worrying it back and forth as his gaze searches mine. “What about that dinner?” he asks.
My stomach growls at the absolute wrong time… or maybe the right time, I’m not sure. He winks, then clears his throat. “So that’s a yes?” he asks.
I’m not sure if I should agree to the dinner or not, but I’m hungry, and I’m not ready to watch him walk away, so I nod my head and agree. It’s a yes. I’m hungry for food but also for him, and I hope that I get both by the end of the night, and I’m not sure I care about how that feels.
Instead of questioning myself, I agree. Because if I do that, I might talk myself out of going to dinner with him, and I really want to go to dinner with Ivy… And dessert, I want dessert. He reaches out, palm facing up.
When I slip my fingers in his, he curls his around mine before he turns and tugs me behind him. He hurries us outside, and I’m surprised that it’s already dark. A chill slides over my body as the air moves across the parking lot.
“You cold?” he asks.
Humming, I shift my attention from the parking lot to him. He dips his chin, his gaze holding mine for a moment. “I’m not used to the mountains.”
When he lifts his hand, his palm cups my cheek. “I’ll warm you up, babe. Let’s get some food, princess.”
“Why princess?” I chance asking, wondering why the hell he’s started calling me that when I know I am anything but
He chuckles, his eyes dancing as they search mine. “Pulling up here in that car, wearing that dress. And now, standing in front of me looking like you do, you trying to tell me you’re not high maintenance?”
My eyes widen before I blink. I can’t believe he’s just said that to me.
I’m not sure how to respond to it. I’ve never been accused of being high maintenance a day in my life.
But then I think about the fact that I demanded I be allowed to keep the car and jewelry and that Lucian writes me a check for fifty grand.
Maybe I am high maintenance.
The thought has never crossed my mind. I don’t know how I feel about it.
All I’ve ever known when someone was being called high maintenance was that it was a bad thing.
Now I’m wondering if he sees me in a bad light.
I mean, once he really knows me, he’ll probably see me that way anyway, but I wasn’t expecting it to come off right out of the gate.
“Hey, Posey,” Ivy calls out. I lift my eyes to meet his. I hadn’t realized that I was staring off into the distance while I was thinking about this dilemma. “I don’t mind, babe. High maintenance is kind of my thing.”
I open my mouth, then snap my lips closed as I try to come up with some kind of response to that. I have nothing. Absolutely nothing. Thankfully, Ivy doesn’t demand that I say anything. Instead, he shifts even closer to me and slides his hands from my cheeks to my hips, squeezing me there.
When he dips his chin, his lips brush mine, and I swear my whole body melts. I melt. Into him, for him, whatever it is, I’m not sure. All I know is that this man makes every part of my body feel… gooey .
Nobody else has ever made me feel this way, not even the guy I married. God. What an idiot I am.
IVY
I climb onto my bike and stabilize it, holding out my hand to help Posey.
She looks at the seat, then up at me without moving.
Pressing my lips together, I try to hide my smile because I know she’s trying to figure out how she’s going to climb on this in her skirt, coupled with the fact that I called her high maintenance, which she’s trying to prove that she’s not.
It’s cute as fuck.
She looks down at the seat, then shifts her attention back to meet mine before she reaches down, grips the sides of her skirt, and hikes it up a bit more. I watch her, wondering how high it’s going to go, and like the somewhat pervert I am, hoping to see her panties.
Posey doesn’t give me a show as she reaches out, gripping my hand before she climbs on behind me, but that’s okay because I’m going to get the whole spectacle later when I fuck her. I’m going to see every goddamn bare inch of her, and it’s going to be fantastic, just like last night.
Inwardly, I groan, thinking about last night. I want her again right fucking now, but I need to put forth a little effort. There needs to be some wooing involved if I’m going to get her to open up for me… well, open up more than just her legs.
With a relaxed hold on the handgrips, I guide the bike away from the clubhouse and down the gravel drive. Instead of taking her straight to a restaurant, I decide to take the scenic route. The mountains of North Carolina are always beautiful, but at sunset, they’re breathtaking.
I ride toward a lookout point and pull over as soon as I can, moving into the rounded parking area that’s just big enough for a few bikes and maybe a car. Pushing the kickstand down with my heel, I kill the engine.
Posey climbs off my bike and straightens her skirt as I throw my leg over and disengage myself.
She doesn’t move, her eyes meeting mine as I stand in front of her.
Taking in her features, I realize that she seems somewhat scared.
I almost laugh because I’m the least scary brother at that clubhouse, but she doesn’t know that yet. She doesn’t know me yet.
“Brought you here ’cause I figured you haven’t seen a Carolina sunset before.”
She doesn’t look away from me at the sunset. Her gaze stays fixated on me, and I watch her for a moment, wondering what she’s thinking and how she’s going to respond. Then she lifts her hand between us and places her palm against my chest. My muscles tighten from her touch.
Posey’s eyes search mine for a moment, but she doesn’t speak. Dropping her hand, she turns toward the lookout and walks over. I don’t know what she’s thinking, couldn’t even guess, but I watch her move until she can’t go any farther.
She stands at the edge of the lookout, her back to me, and I take that moment to really look at her. At least at her back. Aside from her great ass and sexy legs, there is more to the woman in front of me. I’m just not sure what that more entails.
I want to know, though.
I want to know beyond whatever drama she’s currently knee-deep into. I want to know her. And I can honestly say there has never been a woman I have been curious about like this in my life.
There were girls I dated during college, especially ones I blew off steam with during law school, but they were in law school, too, and doing the same. But none whose past I was ever curious about. All I gave a shit about was what they looked and felt like beneath their clothes.
“It’s beautiful,” Posey whispers.
I hum, not looking anywhere but at her. I agree that she’s beautiful, but I couldn’t give a fuck less about the sunset. I’ve seen a million of those. What I am focused on is Posey Bennet. I can’t put my fucking finger on her, and it’s bothering me.
She looks back at me over her shoulder, her eyes meeting mine. Pure fucking honey. “You’re not going to come up here and look?” she asks.
I shake my head once, my lips twitching into a smirk. “No, princess. The view I have here is everything I need.”
I watch as her nostrils flare, then she abandons the scenic view and spins around. We stare at one another for a long, silent moment. She opens her mouth, but I don’t give her the opportunity to say a single fucking word.
Instead, I shift my face close and touch my mouth to hers, slipping my tongue inside to taste her. Posey moans and her hands find my cut, her fingers curling into the leather as she holds on.
Reaching around her body, I grip her ass, my fingers digging into her skirt there. And if this was just fucking and nothing more, if I weren’t trying to woo her in any way, I would take her right here, right now.
But I can’t do that.
Slowly, I break the kiss, nibbling on her bottom lip as I lift my head and my eyes connect to hers again. She’s breathing heavily, her lips swollen from my kiss. She looks so goddamn fuckable right now.
“If we don’t get back on the bike, I’m going to eat you for dinner,” I warn.
Her eyes widen, and her parted lips slowly turn up into a grin. “Promise?” she asks.
Shaking my head, I dip my chin, touching my mouth to those perfect fucking lips, and murmur against them, “I’ll eat you for dessert, princess. Now let’s go.”
She shivers in my arms, and I can’t help but chuckle. No doubt she’s thinking about dessert. “Dinner first,” she murmurs as if she’s saying it to herself.
“Yeah,” I grunt, taking a step backward.
I walk toward my bike, throw my leg over, and straddle it as I watch her approach.
She doesn’t say anything but also doesn’t make a move to climb on behind me yet.
Instead, her attention shifts from me to the sunset.
The sun is almost gone now. Soon, it will be dark with millions of stars all around us, and now I want to bring her back here for that, too.
Jesus fucking Christ, I don’t know what’s getting into me.
I’m turning into a romantic or some shit.
I need to fuck her hard, fuck that romance shit out of this.
Posey hikes up her skirt and climbs on the back behind me.
She wraps her arms around me, scoots forward, and I feel her tits against my back.
Fucking hell.
