“Most definitely,” he said, sweeping me into his arms. “I locked the doors on the way in.”

“Good. But Kaz has a key. If he catches us again…”

“Don’t worry, I warned him away. He just made me promise to disinfect the exam bed.”

“Oh, will it need to be?”

“Most definitely. Get undressed, Nurse Brecklyn. I have a pain to check out and only you can fix it.”

“Cheesy,” I laughed as he pulled my scrub shirt over my head then reached for the tie on my pants.

Putting the earpieces of my stethoscope in my ears, I listened to his rapidly beating hear.

“A little fast,” I commented.

“Normal around you.” He took the device and set it aside then pulled me to my feet and shoved down my pants. “I’ve actually had a very relaxed day until now.”

“Oh? Kill anyone?”

“Smart mouth. I had Tymofii with me.”

I raised a brow at him. “No one since last month when one of Novikoff’s grabbed you.”

I tapped my tracker. “Thank goodness for this.”

He snorted. “Thank goodness for the bodyguards that go with you everywhere.”

Yeah, the guy made it about a foot before I stabbed him in the side with the little knife I kept on me at all times. Then one of mybyki, my bodyguard, grabbed him. And when we got home, Valariy finished the problem.

It was a fact of life. I’d gotten used to it, and like Emma, I understood it, too. The world wasn’t black or white. It wasn’t just gray, either. It was a whole spectrum of colors but whenI got lost in it, I just needed to find my White Rabbit and he always led me home.
