T he last month has been so busy that everyone seems to dash past me shouting “Hello, Alpha,” “Bye, Alpha,” or something else.
I’ve only seen Adira at a late meal and getting into bed.
I’ve noticed Adira is tired and has lost a little of her sparkle.
Well, that is what I call her exuberant personality.
We are officially recognized by the Alpha Council at this point and no longer a rogue pack. But none of the pack mind that now we have a council that listens and is not overblown with power.
While Adira has been organizing alongside Leo and Rom the packhouse and the territory boundary between ourselves and the Dark Water Pack, I have had my head down and creating alliances.
The Blackbird Pack saw Benedict, Travis, Joliee and others leave the pack, complaining about their treatment from the Alpha Council. They are apparently going to create a new pack and become a rogue pack as ours has been in the past.
Alpha Paul has allied with us, and I’m happy about that. It has eased the feeling Adira had of the pack. I took Adira for a visit and it was very apparent that she had been well liked amongst the pack, and the warmth they gave her took away many of the bad feelings she had about the pack.
The other packs we have alliances with, which of course includes my brother James' pack.
Alpha Tyronne and the Western Wind Pack.
Alpha Charles and the Grayington Pack. Alpha Ulrick and the Bayside Pack.
Also, Alpha Rudik and Blue River Pack, and the surprise alliance of the Silver Birch Pack and Alpha Zac.
With this many alliances, I cannot see our pack having any trouble from the packs we have no alliances with. I would rather we be on good terms with all packs than be at the throat of one.
Leo has the packhouse filling with warriors at this point. It is in a perfect location for the patrol warriors, and there are so many bedrooms that the first floor has been made into a warrior's floor.
Leo has declared the second floor is for pack members that want to stay. The third floor is for the Delta and Gamma. The top floor for the Beta and Alpha families.
It works out perfectly and once we decide to leave the farmhouse, it will be ideal.
It is still something Adira doesn’t want to do.
She is happy at the farmhouse and she’s near the town.
I’m not making her move anywhere. We can easily have a suite of rooms at the packhouse and stay here when we want. It’s not a bother to us or anyone else.
The office door opens, and Adira walks inside. “Hello, Sweetness.”
“Hello, mate.”
Now, Adira says that with less than her usual exuberance, so I open my arms as I push my seat back, allowing her to come and sit on my lap. She quickly sits and wraps herself around me. Breathing each other in, we relax.
“Are you alright?” I ask.
“I have been thinking for quite a while about my position as Alpha.”
Leaning back slightly so I can see her face, I raise an eyebrow. “What do you mean you’ve been thinking about your position…”
Cutting me off from continuing, Adira speaks again.
“Barrik, I was I know born an Alpha female but I’m a Luna, that is what I trained to be, that is what I expected to be.
” Taking a deep breath and looking at me again, with a serious face I might add.
“I would very much like to drop from Alpha status to Luna if you would agree with that?”
“Oh. Well, I’ve never given it a thought. But if that is what you want, then we should speak to James. Not because he is head of the Alpha Council, but because he’s a good third party to listen and advise us if it’s a good or bad move, for us, and the pack.”
“Okay, I’m happy for us to do that.” Adira kisses my chin before tucking herself tightly against me and falling asleep.
Something is not quite right with Adira at the moment. She is swinging between tiredness, eating pickles and sex. Now, I don’t mind the sexual hunger at all. In fact, it’s damn amazing, but the tiredness is worrying.
When we visit James, I may ask his doctor to look at Adira. If she agrees, because if she doesn’t, then that’s the end of the matter.
Walking into the office at the Dark Water Pack, I give my brother James a warrior greeting. Hand to elbow, and shoulder to shoulder. James then pushes me aside and grabs Adira. “Sister, are you alright? You look very pale.”
“I think I’ve had a bug or something. My stomach has been a little off lately.” Adira hugs James back, and I can’t help the jealous growl that Rawlin lets out.
“Oh, brother, give up. Rawlin behave, she’s my sister,” James laughs. “Do you want Doc Baker to look at you?”
“Yes, but I want to discuss with you something that we need an impartial view of first.” Adira steps back over to me and wraps her arms around me.
We spend the next hour discussing Adira, stepping down from being an Alpha to Luna.
A position that she sees as hers. I’d not realized how much she struggled to see herself as an alpha although she is one, born to be one.
But I’m happy with either position Adira wants. I, after all, only want her happiness.
“Okay, Adira, we’ll announce to the pack that you will be Luna from this point forward, but I want to be able to bounce ideas and pack details with you. Luna’s don’t always do that, but I want you to have a say in the pack moving forward.” I kiss her forehead as she agrees.
I waste no time and instead of having a pack meeting; I send out a pack mind link with the fact Adira is a Luna now. I send another message to comfort and stop any misunderstanding regarding Adira stepping down.
“I’m sure the pack will speak to me about this when I meet them.
I’ll be happier Barrik, being the Luna I want to be.
Yes, I’m happy to stand beside you, but you are an Alpha born too, and I know you can manage our pack without my having to assist. Being the Luna gives me a lot of my own type of pack power.
I’ll have to tell Stella she is my shadow as the Gamma.
” Adira laughs as she walks out of the office with me and James following behind.
“You know Stella will either love this new twist or she’ll hate it. But either way, those two together are a troublesome combination,” James chuckles.
I know better than saying anything within Adira’s earshot, so I shrug and follow to the infirmary where the Doc is going to check out Adira.
“PREGNANT!” Adira screeches.
The doc takes a step back and looks at James with some worry. But James and I are standing with our chins on our chests in shock. This is the last thing we expected.
As soon as the shock wears off, which takes all of a minute, I launch myself at Adira, pick her up and spin her around, laughing as much as I can at this moment, bursting with happiness and pride.
Placing her on her feet once more, I kiss her thoroughly.
“Thank you, Adira, for making me the happiest I’ve ever been.
I have you and we are going to have a mini you.
” I drop to my knees and kiss her belly.
“Hello, baby, I’m your daddy and I love you already.
I can’t wait to meet you. Can you stop making your momma eat pickles please, because it is giving her gas and it’s not very nice. ”
A burst of raucous laughter has me turn and give the evil eye to James, who is laughing so hard he has his hands on his knees and tears running down his cheeks.
“What are you laughing at?” Adira asks.
“Stinking gas…oh, my, you three best go home because I don’t want to be smelling your stinky gas.” James turns and just as he is stepping out of the infirmary he looks over his shoulder. “Congratulations. I can’t wait to meet my niece or nephew, but don’t want the stink.”
“I’m going to get him back when he meets his mate. I’m going to befriend her and we are going to make sure he suffers.” Adira smirks as she rubs her belly and walks out of the infirmary with me right behind her.
“Well done, Luna Adira.” Stella gushes as she is staring at my son Rudin.
“He is amazing isn’t he?” Adira says in response, and I kiss her forehead before responding.
“He’s just as amazing as his momma.”
The pregnancy had been a good one, and Adira had enjoyed every moment. You can see and feel the love she has for Rudin. It is shining from her like a beacon in the sky.
“Thank you, Barrik. For being the perfect mate, and giving me the love I’ve craved for. I love you more than you could imagine.”
I don’t give her the opportunity to say more. I kiss her thoroughly. “No, I’m the lucky one. You are everything I ever dreamed of and more. I love you in this world, and I’ll love you in the next, and the next…”
The End … Or is it!
