Page 51 of Waiting for Him (Trident Security #3)
A s the organ music started, Boomer stood tall in his Navy dress whites and watched Kat glide elegantly down the center aisle of the quaint little church.
Damn , she looked stunning . . . and she was all his.
It was three months since he first saw her in the Trident offices, and he fainted at the sight.
He was still getting razzed for that, but he would gladly suffer through it to have her back in his life .
. . for good. A ring on her finger and a permanent collar around her neck told the world she was spoken for.
The day after finding her in the club, they’d spent hours in his bed, having kinky sex, making sweet love, and talking about their future.
They’d only showered and gotten dressed that evening to attend an impromptu barbecue at the compound because his mom had driven up to get his dad’s bored ass out of the house for a while.
His folks had also wanted to see Kat for themselves and reassure her they didn’t blame her for things that had been beyond her control.
Instead of attempting to beat the crap out of Carter for kissing Kat , Boomer kicked his ass on the compound’s basketball court in the parking lot outside the training building.
He wasn’t stupid enough to challenge a lethal black-op assassin to a sparring match, so he took the bastard down on the court.
Of course, there were some scuffles, along with plenty of elbow jabs to the jaw, ribs, and gut, which were returned just as hard.
By the end of the game of one-on-one, both men had been sore, bleeding, and laughing, much to the women’s horror.
The female gender just didn’t understand how men enjoyed beating each other up out of friendship and gratitude.
Boomer was just thankful Carter had taken the initiative to get Kat back to Tampa , and he would owe the man his life . . . again.
With Reggie Helms ’ legal help and Dr . Marie Sawyer’s contacts, Kat was setting up multiple large donations to various charities that would best benefit from the millions of dollars in the Cayman account.
She was making all the donations in memory of her parents and brother, finally happy something good had come from their tragic deaths.
After they packed her things and shipped them by freight, then said goodbye to her friends in Portland , Boomer had taken the time off Ian had offered him.
He flew Kat to the island of St . Lucia , where they’d fucked like rabbits for a week straight, in between sunbathing on the beach and acting like tourists.
On their last night on the scenic Caribbean island, they’d taken a moonlit stroll.
Shaking with a mixture of fear and anticipation, he’d gotten down on one knee and proposed to her with his grandmother’s antique engagement ring.
His mother had surprised him and given it to him the night of the barbecue with her and Rick’s blessing.
Gentle waves had lapped at the shoreline as a full moon hung high in the star-filled sky.
Taking Kat’s left hand, he’d gazed into her chestnut brown eyes as they welled up with stunned but happy tears.
“ Kitten , I love you with all my heart. You’re my sunshine, my moonlight, my past, and my future.
My life was beautiful with you in it the first time, and it’s beautiful again now that you’re back in my arms. I had a dream last night about Alex .
I know it sounds weird, but he gave me his blessing and made me promise to take care of you forever.
Whether real or imagined, it’s a promise I intend to keep.
Marry me, sweetheart. Grow old with me and make the rest of my life beautiful too. ”
He’d barely uttered those last few words before she shouted, “ Yes !”
As he’d slid the ring on her trembling finger, a round of applause and whistles came from a small crowd of tourists who’d stopped to watch the romantic proposal. Ignoring them, Boomer had stood and scooped Kat into his arms, kissing her with all the love in his heart.
“ Benny ?”
He shook the perfect memory from his mind and looked down at the petite woman standing next to him, holding his arm.
Kat’s Aunt Irina looked stunning in her simple lace wedding gown.
Then he noticed the music had changed and the guests were waiting for him to escort the bride down the aisle.
The corners of her warm brown eyes crinkled in amusement, and she grinned at him as if sensing where his mind had gone. “ It’s time.”
“ Right . Are you sure about this? You know I have a getaway car right outside if you’re not,” he teased her.
She squeezed his arm, then gazed toward the other end of the aisle where Ret .
Major Harry Bernhard stood proudly, waiting for his wife-to-be.
On the opposite side of the altar was Kat , the maid of honor, smiling back at Boomer and her aunt.
“ Oh , I’m very sure. Like the story of you and my little Katerina , I’ve been waiting for him all my life. ”
