But then from the other end of the hallway I saw the edge of my purse peeking out from the crack of the door.

Thank God!

Almost there now.

I felt sticky with sweat.

There was only the little bathroom light behind me to guide my way now, the statues and artwork looming over me as I made my way cautiously down the hallway.

The windows here were wide open, stretching tall and long as the fall air chilled my feet. I didn’t want to miss my footing and somehow stumble headfirst out of one.

Just a few more steps.

And I’d be safe in the room.

And then the last light went out.

CHAPTER 4

For a moment, I froze in place, sudden, all-consuming terror pulsing through me as the light from the bathroom suddenly went out behind me.

The lights here must be old.

Perhaps they just hadn’t been maintained.

I put one toe forward.

It was absolutely pitch black, the only illumination the silvery light of the moon that flitted through the windows.

Another toe.

Suddenly I saw a little movement, just the tiniest flicker of something in the hallway and Iran.

I didn’t even let my brain tell me I was overreacting.

Because Ifelthim.

A low rumble of gritty laughter sliced through me, like he thought it was fuckingfunnyto scare me.

I wanted to cry out for him to leave me alone, but didn’t want to let him know where I was. . .

If I could remain absolutely silent, I might be able to tiptoe down the hallway to my door.

Then I felt all the hairs rise on the back of my throat, and Gabriel yanked me back by my braid, forcing me against his chest.

He wasn’t wearing a shirt and I felt hard abs and muscle behind me, pressing into my scalp.

For a moment I felt choked with sheer panic, but then I opened my mouth and screamed.

Gabriel’s lips were against my ear as I shrieked at the top of my lungs.

“HELP! HELP ME!”

“Scream all you like,” Gabriel rumbled. “It only makes my dick harder. The walls are thick here.”

“What are youdoingwith me?”

“Shut up and feel what the fuck I’m doing.”
