I nervously bite my lip, before saying, “You won’t.” Hoping he would be bold enough to show me if he really can turn all skull faced.

His face falls for a moment and he tears his gaze away and walks past me.

Disappointment weighs heavy in my stomach before I grab his hand, “Please. I want to see.” He turns and gives me a long look before sighing.

He leans close enough so that his hood is slightly covering my face along with his, and then…

A jolt of shock runs through me as I watch the impossible unfold before my very eyes. One side of his face twists and warps, as if reality itself is glitching. The skin thins, becoming almost translucent, revealing the stark ivory of the bone beneath.

Then, with chilling speed, the skin vanishes completely on that side, leaving behind a bare skull. His once silver eye disappears into the darkness of the empty socket, swallowed by an abyss. My breath hitches in my throat, rendering me speechless.

My gaze is fixated, a morbid fascination holding me captive. My eyes trace the grim landscape of his exposed skull: the rows of teeth, gleaming starkly against the dim light; the gaping hole where his nose should be, a vacant space that hints at the missing humanity; and the empty eye socket.

That socket… it’s more than just an absence. It feels like a bottomless void, a black hole in space that radiates an unnerving pull, threatening to draw me in and consume me whole.

“Scared yet?” His voice is a low rasp, a guttural rumble that vibrates through the air and sends a shiver crawling across my skin. Goosebumps erupt on my arms, prickling beneath my clothes.

But before I can even respond, the gruesome transformation begins to reverse. The bone fades, replaced by the slow, agonizing growth of flesh and skin.

Driven by an impulse I can’t explain, I lift my hand, reaching out to him. My fingertips brush against the side of his face, tracing the sharp angle of his cheekbone that is cold beneath my touch.

“No,” I breathe, the word a barely audible whisper. “I like it like this.”

As if responding to my desire, the transformation falters, then ceases. The skin doesn’t fully return. Half his face remains a macabre mask of bone, a chillingly beautiful mixture of life and death.

A rush of adrenaline courses through me. I lick my lips, the gesture subconsciously provocative as I graze my fingertips lightly over the exposed bone of his cheek. He lets out a long, shuddering sigh, a sound that speaks of a pleasure that borders on pain.

My hand drops to my side as he straightens, a sudden alertness in his posture. And just in time. Hannah is heading our way, her steps purposeful. Shit. Drinks. Right, I forgot about that. Abruptly, I take a step back, trying to create space between us, to somehow regain a semblance of composure.

My heart is hammering against my ribs. I need to get my heart rate under control, to appear normal, casual… anything but the captivated creature I feel like right now.

“What the hell you guys doin—holy shit.” Hannah says, staring at Vex wide eyed. “Jesus, that’s scary as fuck. But hot. If that makes sense.” She states, chuckling.

“Oh, it definitely makes sense.” I blurt, feeling my cheeks heat as Vex turns and stare down at me.

I didn’t think that through. But, come on. It is creepy and all that but something about his skull face, has heat not only rushing to my face, but straight down settling between my legs. I avoid eye contact, keeping my attention on Hannah but I can feel his gaze burning into the back of my head.

“Hey, um, I know we are here together, but I bumped into Jason on the way to the drinks and he wanted me to join him on the Ferris wheel, so…” She says, twirling her fingers like a naughty child.

Shaking my head, I give her a smile, “Go on, I’ll be fine.”

She leaves a peck on my cheek before turning to Vex, pointing a finger at him, “You better look after her.”

He lets out a small chuckle before saying, “Always.” His response has my heart pounding against my chest. I’m going to be alone with him, again.

I know I told her to go, but now I’m not so sure if I want her to leave.

I watch as she walks off towards the Ferris wheel where Jason is waiting for her before turning to Vex.

“So, what do you wanna do?”

A smirk pulls at his lips before he answers in a low voice, “I thought you’d never ask.”

Ignoring the way his words affect me, I turn and start strolling through the booths. All of them consisting of games where you can win giant teddies. I watch as couples hug and kiss as they win each other something special to remember the night.

It makes me wonder what Austin is up to. After our little silent treatment, he left and I haven’t seen him yet.

“I see you eyeing those teddy bears. Do you want me to win you one?” Vex suddenly asked beside me. I let out a laugh and turn to him, “What, are you serious?”

“I’ll take that as a yes.” He proudly says, making his way to the booth. What is happening right now? I hurry after him, grabbing his arm as he reaches the man working the game.

“Wait, you really don’t have to.” He turns and gives me the most beautiful smile, his sharp canines shining under the illuminating lights, “I want to.”

My entire body warms by the idea of him wanting to play a game just to win something for me. I can’t deny the affect it has and how my insides turned to liquid at the sight of him throwing baseballs at the targets, knocking them all off one by one.

Watching him, he looks nothing more than a normal man, playing a normal game. I can’t seem to tear my gaze away and it’s clear that he notices because his voice echoes inside my head that has every nerve in my body set ablaze.

Unless you’re willing to wrap your legs around my waist, I suggest you stop staring, darling.

Heat rushes to my cheeks but I refuse to tear my gaze away. After a few more throws, I’m quickly reminded that he is anything but a normal man as he turns towards me, his half skull face still on display.

But the thing that catches my eye, is the huge grim reaper teddy in his arms. Wow, I wonder why he chose that one. He chuckles as I roll my eyes, trying my best not to smile.

“Tada, now you have a mini Vex to keep you company.” He says before leaning closer, “For when you miss me.” His low and seductive voice sending a wave of tingles down my spine.

“Shut up.” I mutter, taking the teddy from his arms. “Thank you.” He gives me a wink and my cheeks instantly heat.

As I turn to head to another booth, something catches my attention that has my stomach turning and all the blood vanishes from my body.

I see Austin with his tongue down another girl’s throat.

My eyes start to water as I walk up to him. Leaving Vex with a confused look on his face. At first he doesn’t realize I saw them, but when they finally stop sucking each others faces, he looks up and his eyes widen. “Shit. Lil—“

“You fucking asshole!” I yell, tears threatening to fall. “We’re done!” The girl next to him looks confused and I bet she had no idea the dick wasn’t as single as he probably made her to believe.

I turn, shoving the teddy back in Vex’s arms before running towards the field that is situated next to the grounds.

Tears start streaming down my face and my chest feels like it’s on fire as I run further into the fields. I know Austin was an asshole, but for some reason, I never thought that he would do that to me.

I come to a stop, my chest heaving as I try to swallow more tears that threaten to fall. As I scan my surroundings, I realize I’ve run so far that the carnival is barely visible, just a glowing orb in the distance.

Suddenly, a crow flies over my head and materializes into a cloud of smoke that hits the ground with a shuddering thud before Vex steps out, concern edged on his face and I notice his entire face is back to human.

“Fuck, Lily. Are you okay?” He breathlessly says as he reaches out toward me, but I take a step back, wiping the tears from my cheeks. “Just go, please.”

“I’m not going anywhere.”

“Just go, please!” I shout in between sobs, but he doesn’t move.

“You can shout all you want, I’m not leaving you like this.

” He softly says, and as if my body had a mind of his own, I move towards him and crash against his chest, sobbing as he wraps him arms around me.

He doesn’t speak, doesn’t utter a word as he lets me cry into his chest, letting out all the sadness, anger and betrayal.

Suddenly, everything around me starts spinning, warping together with a mixture darkness and my stomach drops, feeling like I’m about to puke.

I shut my eyes and hold on to him tighter as the world around us turns into void before everything stops. I feel bile rising in my throat as I let him go and step back. I’m home. What the fuck?

I take a deep breath, forcing the bile down before looking up at him confused.

“Shit. Sorry, I probably should’ve warned you.”

“I’m fine,” I say, waving him off. “So, you can teleport? That’s…interesting.” I softly say, acting like this isn’t freaking me the fuck out. Because it is. This is crazy. How has this become my life?

“You can leave now.” I murmur, stepping away and making my way to my bed. I still feel dizzy after that stunt.

As I lay down on the bed, I watch him move over to my desk, grazing his fingers over the wooden surface before plopping down on the chair.

“I don’t need a baby sitter.” I say annoyed, before closing my eyes.

“I’m not here to babysit you, I’m here to make you feel better.

” He states, his voice low and before I can react, a rush of coldness spreads along my legs and I snap my eyes open.

Staring down, I see those familiar shadow hands creeping up my legs, curling around my thighs before spreading them apart and I gasp.

“Wha—“

“Shh…don’t move.” He whispers before a hand swipes over my panties, rubbing against the fabric covering my clit causing me to let out a strained moan. I catch a quick glimpse of him, still sitting at my desk with his eyes locked on me as his shadows touch and caress me.

“Tell me to stop, and I will.”

I don’t want him to. At this moment, all I can think about is him. No heartbreak, no betrayal, no Austin. Just him touching me. But I can’t seem to find the words to say it, so I do what I know is better than words.

Don’t stop, please. I repeat in my head over and over. The next moment, his shadows open my legs wider for him to kneel on the bed with his head between my legs, staring up at me with those silver eyes.

I feel the fabric of my panties move as he pulls them to the side, his warm breath fanning against my core. He opens his mouth and a single drop of spit rolls off his tongue and lands on my sensitive clit causing me to jerk.

But the thing that catches me off guard is when he sticks out his tongue. It extends to an inhuman length and my eyes widen.

“Fuck,” I whisper. His eyes never leave mine as he leans down and gives a long lick from my entrance to my clit before closing his mouth over me. The wave of pleasure hits me so hard, I think I might fucking explode.

“So fucking sweet.” He murmurs. My mouth falls open as he licks and sucks on the sensitive nub before he slips his entire tongue into me causing a loud moan to slip out. Holy. Fucking. Shit.

My hands instinctively go to his hair, tugging on the strands and pulling him closer as I buck my hips for more friction. I slowly start grinding my hips, matching the rhythm of his mouth. Warmth starts coiling up my spine, spreading across my cheeks and down to my toes as I near the edge.

As he plunges his tongue deeper, rubbing against that perfect spot, he lets out a groan that vibrates against my pussy and that’s enough to completely send me over the edge.

“Oh my god!” I cry out, my muscles tightening as a shattering orgasm rips through me, the pleasure blinding me as white spots dance across my vision. I rock my hips a bit slower against his mouth, riding out my high before my limbs go numb.

He raises from between my legs, his mouth glistening from both spit and my arousal. The last thing I remember as I laid there catching my breath, is him licking his lips and his words echoing in my head before the darkness engulfed me.

Good enough to eat, darling.
