Story: Vacation Friends
CHAPTER
FIFTY-TWO
Tonight is the night.
Only no one knows except me.
I smile at the thought, at my gloriously deadly secret.
Soon, people will know.
Justice will be served.
People will get what they deserve.
Including me.
This morning, I’d stood in the distance and watched everything as it played out.
The scene at the beach brought me great delight.
Killing Logan hadn’t originally been a part of my plan. I’d caught her watching me, and I’d seen the look in her eyes. She was suspicious. I couldn’t take the chance that she might talk.
So, using someone else’s name, I’d asked her to meet. She’d said yes, which wasn’t surprising considering the name I’d used.
People aren’t going to treat me like I’m a nobody, like I’m unworthy.
I worked for so long on my plan for today. Everything has to be in place.
And I think it is.
The events of this evening will be one of my greatest accomplishments.
I take a bite of my pineapple as I stand outside the resort.
Then I see Maddie.
She’s heading closer.
Dear, sweet Maddie. Wearing a frumpy outfit with her hair pulled back in a ponytail.
She doesn’t belong in this world.
But I do.
Soon, how she looks won’t matter.
Only survival will.
When I see the look on her face, when she realizes what’s really happening, all of this will be worth it.
I can’t wait.
