Page 147 of Unveil
“Open it.”
My grin grows again as I tentatively take the sheath like it could bite me. The weight is solid but balanced, easy in my grip. Like it was made for me.
I unwrap the paper, my eyes flicking from him to the gift, my palms embarrassingly sweaty. His gaze never leaves my expression, and as I unveil what’s underneath, I gasp.
“It’s…”
“A Fury knife.” He finishes for me with all the gusto of a man who’s hopeless at gifts but has finally found the perfect one. Not that I’ll ever mention Christmasout loudor anything.
I slide it partway out. Black lace wraps the hilt, with rubber grips for my fingers so they won’t slip. Other than the lace, it’s almost a replica of his… down to the engraved “F” on the hilt, “FURY” etched into the blade.
Hislast name.
I try so hard not to look disappointed, but my smile wavers, and my voice is hoarse when I respond.
“This is amazing. Thank you. I’ve been dying for mine since Survival Week, but…” I swallow, hating that I have to say it out loud. “I’m not a Fury.”
I love being a Bordeaux. It’s literally in my veins. I’m a near carbon copy of my momma with my dad’s sass. But I want more. I wantOrion.
We haven’t discussed the arranged marriage or how he’s not enforcing it anymore. But he still calls me “wife,” when I’m not even technically his fiancée anymore. The word—as much as I wish it to be true—is starting to feel less like an endearment and more like a wound Orion keeps prodding, reminding me that’s not what I am at all.
Orion’s voice drops lower, and his fingers stroke my hand over the knife sheath. “Open for me, Luna.”
God.
That one phrase? In thattone? Jesus, it goes straight to the center of my core every time.
Arousal pools between my thighs, and I resist crossing my legs. It’s like he’s got his own “turn Luna on” button at this point.
With the sudden pulse between my legs, I hold his gaze with a sly smile as I do what he says. So I’m too busy eye-fucking him to notice when something falls out of the sheath, and I’m not prepared to catch it.
But Orion is.
He snatches it mid-air.
Before I can see it, I laugh. “Presents in the knife sheath? That’s a new one. Most people just use wrapping paper, you know.” I chuckle, shaking my head. “What am I gonna do with you, Orion Fury?”
He holds up a diamond ring.
“Marry me, little bird.”
My jaw drops. At first, I can’t take my eyes off of the lips that just asked what I’ve been desperate to hear for months.
Well, I guess, he didn’task. But I wouldn’t expect him to.
When those same lips curve into a smile, mine follow as I hold out my hand. But I still joke.
“Not gonna give me a choice?”
“Nope. Not when I know what’s best for you.” He slides the ring over my ring finger easily, but it’s snug enough that I don’t think it’ll ever come off. Just the way I like it. “This is a done deal. It has been all our lives. This—” He nods to the ring, a cushion-cut stone set in a silver band with gorgeous leaf embellishments. “—is just a formality.”
Then he takes my hands. “You are mine, Luna Bordeaux. You always have been, and you always will be. Forever.”
I wrap my arms around his shoulders and lift myself up. Before I can even cling to him properly, his hands are under my ass and he’s carrying me to the cabin.
My heart pounds the second we cross the threshold. I was too single-minded about Benoit earlier to even look at the rest of it. The memory of what happened, who we were, what we lost, it all rushes to the surface again.
But then Orion lays me down on the softest, most comfortable?—
