Berlean tried to hold the wound together, but Luna pulled her arm out and kicked Berlean to the ground.
“What? Aren’t you going to return the hello?” Luna asked.
[Time for the bullying to begin again.] (Syrus)
[Syrus… please don’t say that.] (Eva)
[It’s a factual statement.] (Syrus)
[We just killed a person.] (Eva)
[They were dead the moment they kidnapped the children.] Syrus declared.
While Eva and Syrus were talking, Luna continued speaking.
“Stun silent are we? That can’t do, I mean, I would’ve hoped the first meeting would’ve made you more cooperative.”
Joseph hadn’t spoken yet, and Luna was ready to punish him for it.
“How are you aliv–?” Berlean, with her face on the ground, tried turning over.
“Still alive? Though by how shocked you are, I don’t believe you actually thought I was alive despite what you said to the little boy saint here. Impressive that you are still kicking, though I don’t know who you are, Ms Rook. ”
“Don–t!” Her anger spiked.
“Rook, Rook. Rook. That’s all you will ever be.” Luna taunted, accelerating Berlean’s rage. “Don’t worry, in the end, you would always be sacrificed to protect the more important piece.”
“Y–”
Suddenly, she stopped talking.
[No reason to have her keep suffering.] (Eva)
Hidden from view, Eva’s wire quickly from her the long sleeves of the coat sneak along the ground and stabbed Berlean through the throat.
[Eva, I should’ve done that.] (Syrus)
[Please, can we just get this over with…] (Eva)
[I will be as quick as needed.] (Luna)
Luna walked closer to Joseph. She was still wearing the uniform, but the moonlight glow was surrounding her. Eva swapped to Luna’s form at her request before they jumped out of the bushes.
It did require about a ten-percent mana cost to teleport behind Berlean, but they did so to minimise danger to themselves in their weakened state and to really scream the fact that they are Eliana.
While Luna couldn’t use Space in her past life due to the mana dyeing she was forced to perform. The fact that she had the Space attribute wasn’t unknown to the rest of the church, but everyone knew she had lost access to it.
“How–I don’t understand–” Joseph cried out, afraid.
Luna asked, rolling her eyes. “What's wrong this time?” She stood above Joseph as the hill sloped down.
“You can’t be alive. You can’t teleport. You can’t be here.”
“Oh, what else can’t I be or do?”
“You can’t kill people!” He declared. Joseph wanted to play on Luna’s moral compass.
“Again? Are you really trying this again? I murdered your whole squad last time, and I just did the same to your conversation partner.”
“Eliana… wouldn’t do this, you are not her.”
“So you’ve cycled past believing and gone back to denying, huh? Well–” Luna walked forward and in a flash, Moonlight spikes stabbed into Joseph's arms and legs.
“Arghh!” He screamed in pain, but they were far enough away from the town to not create a disturbance. Even if someone heard, they aren’t going to come looking for a long while, the best bet is for them to report to the town’s paladins in the morning.
“–I don’t care if you don’t believe.”
Luna declared, her voice cold with a ferocity she held for the entire church.
“But now… I was only here to see what was going on, however, I am curious what you two were talking about?”
“Nothing…” Joseph paused for a moment before biting his lip. “We were simply speaking about how to improve my reputation.”
[He has enough guts to lie.] (Syrus)
[Lie?] Luna asked, confused. Before Anlesa interrupted them, they were talking about how to redeem Joseph's reputation.
[A lie by omission. While technically correct, what he was actually discussing was his joining of a project to redeem his reputation. He left out that part.] (Syrus)
[Oh… but it could simply be a case of him being afraid?] Eva wasn’t trying to defend Joseph, she just felt calling it a straight lie was a bit much.
[When it comes to getting information, hiding information is no different from lying.] (Syrus)
Syrus spoke, “Is that everything?”
“Y–Yes!”
Eva sighed, and then Luna took control. “In our last meeting, I said I was going to do nothing, and that was true.”
She opened out her hand, and a Moonlight prism appeared. “I came back here to see how things were doing, and I am not surprised, everything has degraded so much more since after my death, or maybe the filth simply cares less about hiding.”
The light called upon Joseph’s soul.
“Please don’t forget I can hear for the next time I require you to answer my question.”
Joseph looked up at that prism in Luna’s hand in fear.
Seeing it gave him flashbacks to that day when one appeared and exploded his squad.
He didn’t know of the technique, but he simply assumed it was an advance when he didn’t have the skills of learning.
He didn’t even consider it might’ve been an original creation.
“Now let me guess. About to rope another child into the church’s way of life? Wow, how kind of you.”
“How did you–arg–!” He screamed in pain as Luna increased the diameter of the spike in his leg once she grabbed onto it.
“If you haven’t recognised your situation. Currently, you are in the middle of nowhere, at night, and your four limbs are staked into the ground.
“I–”
“I have given you an act of mercy, if you don’t respond truthfully this time…
well, can’t say I’m not curious to see the colours of your bones,” Luna warned him for the last time, if he kept trying to hide information, it might be better if he was dead.
They kept him alive for reasons, but if he wasn’t going to be cooperative, Luna was happy to let him go, yes, she was happy, she was fine.
“So. Give me the answers I want, what is the church currently doing, and what have you kidnapped this time?”
“Argh…” He cried in pain, but with the stress of everything, he finally broke and spilled everything.
“Everything has been so busy. There’s a special guest coming, recommended by Central, to visit in a few days.
With the failure of recent events, the upper echelons have been panicked.
In an attempt to create a stronger foothold for themselves.
Alen’s group found a child with the Guidance attribute, along with a powerful secondary attribute which I am told will create the effect of God's judgement…”
