SAbrINA

I was lost the moment his lips touched mine. It wasn’t like the tentative kiss in the barn. It was desperate, hungry, like we’d both been holding our breath for days and could finally exhale. I knew without a doubt that this time it was happening. I could feel it. Taste it on his tongue.

I pulled him closer as he backed me against the dusty wall.

“God, Sabrina,” he breathed against my mouth, his hands tangling in my hair. “I can’t stop thinking about you.”

“Then don’t stop,” I whispered, already working at the buttons of his shirt. “Don’t you dare stop this time.”

His laugh was rough and low. “Here? In this old house?”

“Here,” I confirmed, tugging his shirt free from his jeans. “Right here, right now.”

The rational part of my brain knew this was insane. We were in an abandoned house that could collapse at any moment, with dust, cobwebs and god knew what else, But I didn’t care. I’d wanted this—wanted him—for too long to let logic get in the way now.

Garrett’s shirt hit the floor. I ran my hands over his chest, marveling at the solid warmth of him. He groaned when I found a sensitive spot just below his collarbone. His hands gripped my hips hard enough to leave marks.

“Your turn,” he said, his voice rough with need as he reached for the hem of my T-shirt.

I raised my arms, letting him pull my shirt over my head. His eyes went dark as he took in the sight of me in my bra. At least it was one of my prettier ones. Yesterday had been unexpected. Today when I dressed, I made sure I was wearing my sexy thong and matching bra just in case.

I was so glad I did. I felt beautiful under his gaze. Not like the polished city women he was probably used to, but beautiful in my own way.

“Perfect,” he murmured, tracing the line of my bra with one finger. “You’re perfect.”

I fumbled with his belt buckle while he unhooked my bra, both of us breathing hard in the dusty silence. When his jeans hit the floor, followed quickly by my own, we were left standing in our underwear, staring at each other in the dim light.

“We need something to lie on,” I said practically, even as my body ached for him. The old floorboards were rough and covered in decades of dust. “I am not getting splinters in my knees.”

He chuckled. “Me either.”

Without hesitation, Garrett gathered our discarded clothes, spreading them out on the floor like a makeshift blanket. His shirt, my jeans, everything layered together to create a barrier between us and the ancient wood.

“Come here,” he said, reaching for me.

I went willingly, letting him pull me down onto our improvised bed. The clothes weren’t soft, but they kept my ass and back from making direct contact with the dusty floor.

Garrett’s mouth covered mine again. I could feel the passion rolling off him in waves, his hands roaming my body, seeking out all my secret places.

I wanted more. Everything. I wrapped my legs around his hips, bringing him as close as possible. Skin on skin. We were both gasping with the effort to breathe when he broke away from my mouth. “Are you sure about this?” he asked roughly.

I nodded emphatically, pushing up onto my elbows to get closer. “Trust me,” I said, my voice shaky with desire. “I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life.”

I wrapped my arms around him as tight as I could. My fingers traced the lines of his back muscles. His lips were so soft and delicious. I loved kissing the man.

Garrett groaned into the kiss and then he pulled back slightly, looking down at me with dark eyes that made me shiver with excitement. “You are so damn beautiful,” he murmured before lowering his head to capture one sensitive nipple between his lips.

I arched into him, unable to contain the whimper of pleasure that escaped me. His hands roamed lower, until he found what he was looking for. His fingers traced over the scrap of fabric covering me.

“Wet,” he whispered against my lips.

“Have been.”

He pushed them aside and traced one fingertip down my slit. I groaned in desperate need for him to ease the ache he’d left me with. He slipped one finger inside me and then another. Pleasure swam through my veins. My head went back and my nails scored down his biceps.

“Yes,” I murmured.

“So wet,” he whispered. “Damn, girl.”

I could barely think straight as his fingers moved inside me, stroking in just the right way to make my hips buck against his hand. Everything about this felt perfect and insane at the same time.

“More,” I whispered, tugging at his boxers. “I need more of you.”

“Not yet,” he murmured. “I want to watch you come apart.”

That was going to happen a lot faster than he probably expected. It had been too long. The orgasm was one stroke away.

And then he rubbed his thumb over my clit and I was a goner. I cried out, my hips bucking as he kept rubbing that sensitive bundle of nerves.

When he hooked his fingers in the waistband of my panties, I lifted my hips to help him slide them down my legs.

“Do you have—” I started to ask, but he was already reaching for his wallet, pulling out a small foil packet.

“Thank God,” I breathed, watching him tear it open with shaking fingers.

“I’ve been carrying this around like a hopeful teenager,” he admitted with a self-deprecating laugh. “Ever since that night on my balcony.”

The confession sent heat flooding through me. He’d been thinking about this, planning for it, wanting it as much as I had.

When he settled between my thighs, I was more than ready for him. The first touch of him against me made us both groan, and then he was pushing inside, filling me completely.

“Fuck,” he gasped, his forehead pressed against mine. “You feel incredible.”

I couldn’t form words, could only hold on to his shoulders as he began to move. There was nothing gentle or slow about it. We were both too wound up, too desperate. It was urgent and raw and exactly what I needed. It had been nearly a week of foreplay. I felt ready to combust.

The old house creaked around us as we moved together, but I barely heard it over the sound of our breathing, the soft moans I couldn’t hold back. Garrett’s mouth found my neck, my collarbone, leaving a trail of fire wherever he touched.

“More,” I whispered, my nails digging into his back. “Please, more.”

He obliged, changing the angle until I saw stars behind my closed eyelids. I was climbing toward something bright and overwhelming, my whole body tensing with the approach of release.

“That’s it,” he murmured against my ear, his voice strained. “Let go, Sabrina. Let me feel you.”

His words pushed me over the edge. I came apart in his arms with a cry that echoed through the empty house. He followed moments later, his body shuddering against mine as he buried his face in my neck.

We lay there afterward, breathing hard and tangled together on our pile of clothes. The dust motes continued their lazy dance in the afternoon light.

“I really hope Samuel Hogan isn’t lurking,” I said with a laugh.

“Are ghosts voyeurs?” he asked, kissing the side of my neck and then up to my mouth.

“I think we gave them a show.”

“A short one. But next time, I promise I will last a lot longer. You just had me too worked up. I’ve had a case of blue balls for days.”

“Well, you could have had me last night,” I teased. “You left me high and dry.”

He chuckled. “Probably one of the dumbest things I’ve ever done.”

“You won’t get an argument from me.”

We stayed wrapped up in each other for what felt like hours but was probably only minutes.

I traced lazy patterns on his chest while he played with strands of my hair, both of us still catching our breath.

The dusty old house suddenly felt like the most romantic place on earth. There was nothing spooky about it.

“We should probably get back,” I murmured against his shoulder, even though I had no desire to move. “Billy and Lucy will wonder what happened to us.”

“Let them wonder,” he said, pressing a kiss to the top of my head. “I’m not ready to share you with the world yet.”

My heart did a little flip at his words. This was the Garrett I remembered from before he’d become all buttoned-up and corporate. The one who used to make me feel like I was the only girl in the world when he looked at me.

“So what happens now?” The question slipped out before I could stop it.

“Now we figure it out as we go,” he said simply.

I was about to respond when his phone started ringing from somewhere in the pile of clothes beneath us. The sound was jarring in the peaceful quiet we’d created.

“Ignore it,” I said, tightening my arms around him.

He kissed my forehead. “I will.”

But the phone kept ringing, stopping only to start up again a few seconds later. Whoever was calling was persistent.

“Just check who it is,” I sighed. “Then turn it off.”

Garrett reached over and grabbed his phone from his jeans pocket. I watched his expression change as he looked at the screen, his jaw tightening.

“It’s the firm,” he said, already sitting up. “I have to take this.”

My stomach dropped. Just like that, the real world came crashing back into our perfect little bubble. “Can’t it wait?”

“Not really.” He was already standing, completely unself-conscious about his nakedness as he swiped to answer the call. “This is Garrett.”

I watched him walk toward the doorway, his voice shifting into that professional tone I’d heard him use during the news interview. Even naked in an abandoned house, he could slip back into lawyer mode like flipping a switch.

The magic was broken. Whatever spell this old house had cast over us was shattered by the reality of his other life. The life that was waiting for him back in Manhattan, full of important calls and high-stakes deals and everything that mattered more than small-town festivals and corn mazes.

And me.

I started gathering my clothes, suddenly feeling exposed and foolish lying there on the dusty floor. What had I been thinking?
