Page 210 of Theirs to Possess: The Marriage Claim
He’s read my mind before I express any concerns.
For a moment, the past returns. I think of her bastard of a father. The man does as he’s told, and I’m proud of my wife and sister-in-law for going to him and forcing him to shut down the escort ring. No matter the risk, they threatened to expose everything if he didn’t agree.
Still, the man’s a slimy, corrupt asshole who will do anything to line his pockets. Having him on payroll is handy as hell. Even if Isla and Margaux have cut him out of their lives entirely.
For a two full hours, champagne flows, a band—including Margaux’s husband— plays, and we all work the room from different angles.
Eventually the guests thin, and Isla returns to me, flanked by Brennan.
The three of us together are a wall—her light, my steel, his watchfulness.
Brennan’s voice is quiet. “Security’s clear. We can take a minute whenever you want it.”
“Now.” I nod.
Needing a minute of peace with my family, I guide us all toward the balcony. The glass doors hush the party behind us, the city stretching out in a sprawl of lights. She stands between us, her hair loose in the night breeze, those two rings catching every bit of the skyline’s glow.
For a moment, none of us speaks. Brennan’s hand brushes hers; I take her other. The three of us linked in silence, the noise and politics of the evening muted beyond the glass.
“This is just the beginning.” I mean every word.
Isla’s fingers tighten around mine, her gaze cutting from the skyline to me, to Brennan. There’s a spark there—defiance and belief, the same fire that’s carried us through every fight. Brennan’s nod is subtle, but I see the promise in it.
The wind lifts a loose strand of her hair, and I smooth it back, my palm lingering against her cheek. “We’ll handle whatever comes.” My words are not just reassurance. They’re a fact.
Behind us, the muffled hum of the party goes on. Deals are still being made, alliances cemented. But out here, it’s just us—the force we’ve become.
I look out over the city one last time, and I feel the promise of a bright future looming in front of us.
Then I drop a kiss on her forehead, and Brennan tips an imaginary glass in my direction. “To forever.”
I nod. “Forever.”
“Forever.” Isla rises on her tiptoes to kiss each of us on the cheek. “And ever.”
