Page 66 of Their Lethal Pet
My brow furrows. “You know…?” I shake my head again. They already told me they knew of Chicago. But I can’t remember if they confirmed knowing how to get there. Regardless, I’m more caught up in that final sentence. “Why would it be difficult?”
“Because it’s hundreds of miles away, and I have no idea what transportation looks like in this reality,” he tellsme. “However, I can ask about it when I meet with the Monster City Queen.”
“You’re… you’re going to ask her about Chicago?”
“Yes,” he answers without hesitation.
“Why?”
He lifts one big shoulder and lets it fall. “Because you keep mentioning it. So now I’m curious about what’s in Chicago.”
I gape at him. “Maybe it’s not a good idea to ask her about it.”
“The Emissary already mentioned it,” he reminds me. “I’m pretty sure the Queen is going to ask me about it since it sounds like it’s not normal for the humans of this world to know cities by their old names.”
Right. Yes. The Emissary did say something about that.
I nibble my bottom lip, my gaze falling to his collarbone. Is any of this going to cause trouble for my sister?I wonder.
Hopefully not. I haven’t mentioned her at all. And I never said how I knew about the city’s name.
But it sounds like this big fae might actually be able to help me learn more about Chicago and how to potentially get there.
That’s good, right?
I lift my gaze to his dark one once more. “Okay. Thank you for asking.”
He nods, then cocks his head to the side, his eyes crinkling. “Want some breakfast, little one?”
It’s an abrupt conversation change.
It’s also accompanied by that endearment again.Little one. I don’t feellittle, but I definitely must seem little to him.
However, he’s also called me anOmega—a term Reaper just used a few minutes ago, too.
I stare up at Orcus, aware of his substantial height, andignore his inquiry about food. Primarily because I’m tired of being distracted. I have so many questions in my head, yet I keep forgetting about them.
Because these men keep doing things like taking off their clothes.
And stroking themselves in the shower.
And vibrating.
And—
I clench my jaw, then narrow my gaze at Orcus. “What’s an Omega?”
There. I asked a good question. And given the flare of his nostrils, it was therightquestion.
“How about we discuss it over breakfast?” he says, clearly trying to negotiate.
“I’m not hungry, and I would like an answer now, please,” I tell him.
Flame chuckles from somewhere in the room. I’m not sure how I already recognize that it’s him, but I do. “There’s my little panther,” he says, confirming I’m right about him being the one who laughed.
“What gift are you going to use now?” Reaper drawls from behind me. “A growl to make her submit?”
Orcus looks over my head at the other man. “I don’t need to growl to make her submit.” His eyes return to mine. “Nor do I have any intention of making her do anything. If she wants answers, I’ll provide them.”
