" H urry up!" I tell Damien, who is so focused on getting little Eli to keep his stylish bowtie on. "We're going to be late."
"He needs to look his best," Damien argues, then finally gives up. "Fine. We can just get him a wardrobe of anime t-shirts like his daddy." I do my best to not laugh at his sullen expression.
We never tried to find out who the biological father is, but when Eli came out looking like a miniature version of Miles with my eyes, it was pretty obvious.
Damien keeps pushing the stroller down the street towards the bakery. Eli's pale blue eyes stare up at me with a toothless smile.
"Hi sweet boy," I coo, letting him grab my finger. "Can you wear the very handsome bowtie for papai ?" He lets out a gurgle of spit bubbles. "Sorry sweetie," I wince at Damien. "He says no."
Damien barks a laugh. "Like Daddy, like son, I suppose."
We continue down the street, finally seeing the balloons and streamers that mark the opening for Hannah and Austin's new endeavor, "Sweet Peach Bakery".
That's right when Hunter pulls up into a parking spot right next to us, and Miles, Kieran, and Brody get out of the car with him.
"Where's my nugget?" Miles makes a beeline for the stroller, peering over the side as Eli makes a little squeal at the sight of his daddy. "Hey little man! You wanna see Appa , Pops, and Dad?"
Eli coos, and Damien swings the stroller around to the approaching group of fathers, and they all get this "in-love" look on their faces when they lay eyes on the little chubster.
App a , of course, is Hunter, while Kieran went for Pops, and Brody stuck with old reliable Dad.
"How was his three month check-up?" Brody asks as we all fall into step.
"Perfect in every way." Damien winks. "What else would you expect? Look at his parents."
"Yes, everything is going great, he's on track for growth, and looking happy and healthy."
"Like I said," Damien huffs, "perfect in every way."
We approach the bakery, and it looks like we got here before the Starbrook City Meteors did, luckily.
The bell above the door dings as we enter, and we're immediately swarmed by…my family.
Cady and Hannah, bellies bulging, rush to hug me and coo over sweet Eli. "He's getting so big!" Cady gushes, peering into the stroller.
"Hey, it's my favorite nephew!" Ollie grins, throwing an arm around Brody's neck as he joins us.
Archie comes over, wrapping me in a hug while Kieran goes over to ruffle Hannah's hair. We're all so busy talking and laughing, we almost don't notice the three huge guys who peek their heads in. "Hey, uh, we're here for the bakery opening?"
"Stevens!" Charlie greets, motioning a hand towards our group. "Get your ass over here."
The opening of the bakery is a massive success, and my pack and I leave a few hours later, exhausted and smiling.
That night, after Eli is settled in his crib and the guys and I are a pile of tangled limbs in bed…an idea comes to mind. "Hey guys?"
Tired "Hmm"s and "Yeah?"s answer, so I just throw it out there.
"How about we skip the birth control shot for my next heat?"
I'm pretty sure the tackling and hugs and kisses I get are answer enough.
I fall as leep that night, wrapped in Miles' arms, visions of our future playing in my head. Things could have turned out so differently if I had never bitten Kieran in that heat clinic. Or if Miles never convinced me to let my walls down, or hell, even if Pack Hansen never tried to step out on me.
I'm so thankful for the life I have now. A job that I love, a son that I cherish, a family I wouldn't give up for anything and the cause of it all…
Is Our Knotty Pack.
